We were visiting Palo Alto recently and found the Steam restaurant. Yummy dim sum! My favorites: BBQ pork buns and Sesame balls. I used to enjoy dim sum in China Town in L.A. and was spoiled by the best. I just hadn’t found good dim sum since moving out of the area. So glad we found Steam! Attentive and prompt service .

Love the food here but the server added an 18% service charge when I dined by myself.4/1 tab 6 #1080

Came for dinner on a Friday night and loved the food. Got the prawn pea shoots dumplings, Szechuan chicken and eggplant clay pot. All were delicious, will be back!

I love their dim sum but they are not on DoorDash any longer . Maybe I’m mistaken but I don’t see them when I look them up . The dim sum is amazing and I like the quality of how they cook their food is . I ordered dd from this place a few times and pick up. I’ve never eaten at the actual restaurant.

The spring roles were delicious however everything else fell a bit short (especially the vegetarian dumplings). The chilli sauce that they had was very flavourful and was super spicy, which I enjoyed.

Steam used to be a good value but prices have gone up. The spring rolls were crispy and light on filling, Gyozas were not pan fried and seemed to be deep fried. The Szechuan Chicken Beas good.

The food is great. All dishes we ordered are fantastic. Like the shanghai pork dumpling, the chicken wings, egg tofu with mushroom, and Wonton Noodle. I feel they are much better than Din Tai Fung in Westfield. It could have been a perfect dining experience, and I am even thinking to recommend this place to some friends later. However, I find this place secretly charges me a mandatory 18% tip when I think about the bills on my way back home. I did not know that when I pay and no one tells me that mandatory 18% tipping stuff. The receipt I get does not show the 18% tips are already charged. So, besides the 18% tips, I paid another 15% tips. I am not sure if they would charge it for everyone or just for some ethics or sth else (it would be super bad if they just charge it for some specific ethnic groups). Have no clue about it. Although I get my personal 15% tips refunded quickly when I came back to them, I will never come back to this place in future. I just feel so angry about being charged a mandatory 18% tips in such a stealthy way.

Take out was awful. Chicken pot stickers okay. Spicy beef was cold. Pork buns were ? Little flavor. Calamari was gummy, I had to refry it when I got home. Rice was the best part of the meal.

Great food and atmosphere in vibrant downtown palo alto but a tad expensive...we had the 5 grain egg fried rice, tofu mushroom, scallion garlic noodle , spicy beans and the veggie dumpling. The food was well cooked but mostly bland and the dumplings were a great disappointment. Recommend asking for a little chilli sauce to liven up the taste. The portions are at best shared by 2. We were a party of 5 with 2 kids. We also ordered 2 meat dishes( chicken noodle soup abd the spicy fish). Pretty much finished most of the food. We enjoyed the fast service especially because we were sooo hungy! I would not recommend the dumplings.Vegetarian options: Limited vegetarian options but mostly with egg. I would not recommend the dumplings.
