Dan Modern Chinese continues to offer high-quality dumplings, comparable to Din Tai Fung. The lunch menu remains an excellent value at $20 for dumplings and an entree, including tax and tip. The restaurant has consistently delivered delicious dishes, with favorites including steamed vegetable dumplings, short rib and mushroom noodles, xiao long bao (pork juicy dumplings), and classic black milk tea with boba.
The vegetable dumplings are exceptional, filled with leafy greens, thin glass noodles, and subtle yet tasty flavors. The short rib and mushroom noodles complement each other well, and the tender short ribs are generously portioned. The xiao long bao are skillfully prepared, with thin wrappers that do not tear. The chicken Dan mein with thick noodles is also a highlight.
Dan Modern Chinese offers a variety of vegetarian options, and the green beans and seaweed with tofu are particularly praised. The knife-cut noodles with mushrooms have a fantastic smoky flavor, though the portion is a little small. The Salt & Pepper Tofu is a standout, with a crispy exterior, and the Spicy Pork Dumplings are just the right level of heat.
