BEST Sunday afternoon, beer...fish&chips...live music out back in the beer garden. Good Times in the sunshine along the coast!
Can i just start by saying highway 1 brewing is the place to be on a cold sunny sunday. The instant you walk in, you feel a sort of magic—celebration of the day. My friend and I stumbled in off of a pretty euphoric morning bike ride up the coast hoping to put a little sustenance in our bodies. Much to our surprise, we saw fish n chips on their menu, and knew what had to be done. Ordered a fish n chips and two highway1 beers. Some of you may know me, Sonali, one of the most trusted fish and chips critics in the states. I wouldn’t say I am the wisest conisseur, but I do know my fair share about a dank fish n chips (I worked on a fish and chips food truck pretty full time for a year). While we waited for our food the átomosphere lit up by the midday sun and my beer, turned to this excited mess of words flowers blur. There may as well have been a band behind the kind server as he walked our fish and chips outside—it was a glorious moment. Ok, i’ll start by describing the plate—fries (i can’t call them chips because they weren’t doused in malt vinegar), cocktail sauce (questionable choice? for f+c), tarter sauce(pretty good—wish it was a little more acidic), a lemon #essential, and the fish. Their fish tasted fresh, clean, not greasy. Honestly my favorite part was the fish, i would come back just for that. The fries were chill, there was malt vinegar packets at the table i put on but it’s just not the same—i wish the kitchen put on the vinegar, so yeah, chill fries. The experience was 10/10 though that food, and drink, and the sun🫠y’all if you’re driving on the once and your lucky enough to pass highway 1 brewing at a time that they are open, stop in! It’s pretty unreal
Great place to stop for a beer and some food! The beer garden had live music going when I was there. Good beer too!
I liked the people working there & their beers were surprisingly good, but the food options all taste reallyyyy basic and frankly all weren’t worth visiting for
the fish tacos I had were a huge letdown, just seemed to be reheated fish with some celery and a tiny bit of sauce
friends got hot dog, chicken tenders, tater tots, and also tacos and came away with a similar impression: really basic food that would fit better being served at a movie theater or baseball game than at a restaurant/brewery
Very cool spot with a friendly local vibe. Really fantastic beer for an operation of its size, and they had good live music the night I was there.
Stopped in for lunch. Placed an order for a Bavarian pretzel and two burgers with fries. Took 43 min for food. The pretzel came out and was hard as a rock...clearly over cooked- when the replacement came the bartender made a snarky comment about hopefully this is up to your standards. Thought that was pretty rude. I never had a Bavarian pretzel that was too hard to bite into. The hamburger was just okay. The fries were good. The two stars were for the fries. Would not recommend. Need better customer service, and better food.
Great seaside spot. Accidentally stopped and spent here a nice afternoon. Great beer, great food, fantastic atmosphere.
Saw this place while driving the one and I'm so glad we stopped. What's better than enjoying a beer while sitting in front of a view of the ocean? Everyone was super friendly and you can tell there's a strong local following. Food was yummy too and I appreciate that they change the menu up often. Can't wait to come back!
Great selection of brews, sailors delight is my favorite (not always on tap though).
Love the beer garden and listening to the band out there. Always seems nice back there, regardless of the weather on the coast.
Food is OK, some days it's better than others ?
It's nice to walk over the road from here and watch the pelicans on the beach.
Only thing I don't like about the place is the guy who works the bar on weekends. Needs an attitude adjustment.
Friendly wait staff, great beer, great tater tots! It was a perfect stop after visiting the beach.

Bar tender was just a rude person, no organization, employees were yelling at each outher. Bathroom looked like it had not bin cleaned in 6 months
We had the opportunity/honor to visit the California in JUN_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience, a great opportunity to learn more about California's history and legacy.
We did visit and plant tour at Highway 1 Brewing Company, and for sure it's a remarkable place with amazing scenic.
Definitely, it's a place that deserves my respect. It was a privilege to taste again a good Porter and IPA beer.
The still remain the same as we visited in 2019.
On our way to Monterey decided to make a quick stop here. I’m happy to be the 1st Venezuelan this year :)
We ate here yesterday.
I ordered the Cheeseburger which I would rate a 2 out of 5; plain boring and no flavor.
My GF ordered the Side Salad and Clam Chowder; a lot of the salad leaves (spinach) were wet and slimy and the Clam Chowder was a brown-ish colored and gelatinous.
We continued our drive up Hwy 1 after lunch and after about an hour my GF all of a sudden got a terrible stomach ache, felt nauseous and then needed to "take care of business". Luckily, we were traveling with a portapotie and had already stopped for a hike. After business was taken care of...she had burbs which tasted like the lunch.
Do you all think we should go back to eat here again?
Delicious food, refreshing beer, and fast, friendly service! Excellent stop along Hwy-1!
