Middle eastern cuisine for breakfast and lunch. Good, friendly service, fresh flavors and delicious homemade pita bread! The tomato soup was very good.
There is a quiet confidence to Pearl, the kind that comes from a kitchen that learned its grammar at Chez Panisse and then went off to write its own sentences. The Alice Waters lineage is unmistakable in the reverence for the ingredient, but the chef here is reaching somewhere more restless, running through North Africa, the Levant, and the Mediterranean without ever feeling like a tour.
