I’ve been coming to Buttercup Pantry since the late ’70s, and it’s still one of those places that just feels like home. The décor might have changed a bit, but the charm hasn’t — it’s good, honest diner food served by friendly folks who seem to know half the town. Breakfast is where they really shine. The pancakes are fluffy, the omelets are packed, and the coffee is always hot (and refilled before you even ask). I had the chicken fried steak last week — perfectly crispy, smothered in gravy the way it ought to be. It can get busy on weekends, so sometimes there’s a short wait, but it’s worth it. My only knock — and the reason I’m giving four instead of five stars — is that service can be a little rushed when they’re packed. Still, that’s small potatoes compared to the comfort and consistency they’ve delivered all these years. If you grew up around here, you’ve probably got a Buttercup story or two. If not, stop in next time you’re in Placerville — it’s a slice of small-town California you don’t see much anymore.

You got to be kidding me. Im a grown man, there is not a water shortage. I was a regular customer, but really, a little shot glass for water, I was told the manager states water conservation. Give me a break, just dumb.

What a homey place! So many restaurants have switched out character for entertainment, like sports on TVs in every corner. This place has not. The menu has all the old favorites: BLT, Chef Salad, homemade dressings, comfort foods, senior menu, homemade desserts, etc. The decor includes retro items from many of our pasts. We were well taken care of and well fed,

We stopped here on our way home from Apple Hill and it did not disappoint. This place is so cute! It is like stepping into your grandmas house. The food was delicious! The had the best pumpkin muffin! We cannot wait to comeback!

We have been here before today. Today was horrible. Placed our order waiting over 25 minutes while everyone that arrived after us ate their food and left. Food was amazing but the turn around from order to food on the table was bad today well at least for us. Our past visits have been awesome today it wasn’t. Hopefully it was just an isolated occurrence.
