Amazing all around!!!! The service, the beautiful setting and the wine!!!! Always our fave!!!
Franklin is a real gold-country gem. He is so knowledgeable and fun, I wish he was at every tasting room I visit. The vine was devine. The 04 Carneros Chard was a real surprise. If you ever wanted a white that taste like a red, this is the one. Don't skip this adorable spot, unless its Frank's day off
If you’re ever wandering through the Sierra Nevada foothills and wondering where joy in liquid form is bottled—stop wondering. It’s Rombauer.
Walking into Rombauer Vineyards feels less like visiting a winery and more like being invited into a secret club where the password is “Chardonnay.” And let’s be honest, their Chardonnay is legendary for a reason—it’s basically sunshine with a hint of butter and a side of applause. Even people who swear they don’t like Chardonnay suddenly become converts here.
But don’t stop there. The reds? Smooth as Sinatra. The Zinfandel? Like a campfire singalong in a glass—warm, a little wild, and guaranteed to make you smile. Every pour manages to strike that magical balance of being both serious enough to impress your wine-snob friend and fun enough to make you forget you have a wine-snob friend.
The tasting experience itself is first-class without being stuffy. The staff are the kind of people you wish you could recruit for every dinner party: knowledgeable but never pretentious, quick with a story, and even quicker with the next pour. They make you feel like family—family that happens to know a lot about grape clones and oak barrels.
And the setting? Gorgeous. You’re tucked right into the rolling Sierra Nevada foothills, with golden light spilling over the vineyards. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to take a hundred photos—and then put your phone down because the wine deserves your full attention.
Bottom line: Rombauer Sierra Nevada isn’t just a tasting room—it’s a mood. A very happy, very delicious mood. If wine country had a “treat yourself” button, this would be it.
Franklin was so kind and tentative. We told him about our favorites and he recommended the perfect wines. He is the wonderful representative for this amazing winery.
The best of the best
Great wine tasting.
Great atmosphere.
Great hostess.
When we arrived, we had no issues with parking. The location is easy to find and there are lots of parking spaces. We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They offer PH balanced filtered water in stylish aluminum bottles, which kept us responsibly hydrated throughout our tour. Our guide was the experienced and friendly Rachel, who answered all of my geeky questions. We enjoyed tastings and cheese pairings. Our favorites were the classic Chardonnays and the Barbera. They have plenty of swag and nibbles to purchase. They are also dog friendly, offering puppy treats and water for your fur babies.
Always a great experience. Very nice people, beautiful setting, great wine!
Hannah was amazing. 10 ⭐️ will be back
“The Joy of Wine” is quite fitting.” Our intro to good wine began with a 40th anniversary trip to Amador wine country and Napa Valley.
We visited Rombauer in the Sierra Foothills in May 2024 and absorbed the beauty and serenity while sipping a couple of wines at the walk-up window. The staff was accommodating and knowledgeable. The Chardonnay was exceptional.
Since then, we learned that Rombauer is Certified California Sustainable, NAPA Green, and Fish Friendly. After another trip in August to NOTL, we upgraded to purchase only those wines that are exclusively Sustainable, Organic, or Biodynamic.
This summer we were delighted to find Rombauer Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc at our local supermarket and Total Wine store. The Chardonnay is oak aged, buttery and delightful. The Sauvignon Blanc is fruity, sweet, and refreshing.
The Rombauer Merlot and Zinfandel are also carried by our local Total Wine and are on our shopping list. We look forward to enjoying them as well. We may need to join the wine club soon!
Cheers to Rombauer!

The wonderful thing about the small local Amador vineyards is you often meet the owners / winemakers while tasting their wines at a reasonable price that is comp'd if / when you purchase a bottle.
Rombauer is neither cost friendly or tasting friendly - it's a corporate approach that doesn't fit in well in the neighborhood. I recommend turning left just before their driveway (Upton Road) and exploring Bella Grace at the top of the hill for great wines as well as amazing local olive oils and vinegars. Fabulous people too!
Very nice place, staff are very friendly and the setting is great. It is a ways out a windy two lane road, but worth it.
This winery has a long standing name for good wines and they produce larger volume than the smaller winery’s. Their staff was well trained and we very helpful. I miss the old winery that use to be there in the early 2000’s.
The wine is always phenomenal and I love that I can bring my own charcuterie and my dog.
One of the primary reasons we keep coming back to Amador for our annual visit is because of Rombauer. Their setting is very relaxing, their staff are all friendly and amazing and they have the best Chardonnay on the planet. I don't seek out any white wines but one, and it's the Rombauer Chard. This year we opted for the 2019 over the current release due to the extra years, palate profile and price point. Next year, that 2023 will be just about right and we'll be sure to take some home. I didn't plan on any other bottles but this year's Zin was on point. Can't say enough about this great winery, and when I'm pouring in our own tasting room in WA, I mention Rombauer often. If you don't drop in for a visit during your wine tasting tour of Amador, you're doing it wrong. :)
