The BottleShop Wine Bar + Kitchen + Retail

This will be a weird review.

First, John (I believe that was his name, but the main bartender) was an absolute delight. So much fun to talk to. So much passion about the wine, and his knowledge was A+. He gave us amazing recommendations and we really enjoyed chatting with him.

Now to the weird part. I honestly wasn't sure whether to make this a 1 star review or not.

He brought out a bottle of wine for me and my girl, and while opening the wine with one of those Coravin's -- the bottle completely exploded! Covering both of us in wine, ruining our clothes.

We felt badly for him, and tried our absolute best to not cause a scene. We told him how it was ok, and not to worry too much.

Well, looks like he REALLY listened to us and didn't worry one bit. He just walked away --- completely left the bar. We actually had to ask another worker if we could get a rag for us to clean both ourselves and the bar. I thought this was strange, but I figured he might have been embarrassed and didn't know how to react.

He came back after we were finished and said he would get the bill for us. Now I'm not one to want hand-outs, but I was completely shocked to find that he charged us the complete bill. I didn't want to make a fuss, but honestly I just feel that after showering us in wine, we should not be charged for that glass.

So, would I recommend this place? Absolutely yes, it was great atmosphere, great wine, and great recommendations.

But holy, getting covered in an exploding bottle of wine, with no apology, no attempt to even help us clean up, and charging us full price after ruining our clothes is just weird to say the least.

The owner is like an amazing character from the movies. There’s no snobbery if you are not wine educated like me. The food is a taste of class and craftsmanship. When I travel to the Bay Area, regardless of where I stay, I travel here to get my fix of atmosphere and friendship. Thank you for existing as you’ve made my life better.

The wine and food program are great. The owner, John is such a friendly and warm person and makes you feel at home. He's knowledgeable and passionate about wine. Great place to have a glass or three, learn about wine, and enjoy some conversation!

This is the best place in Redwood City or San Carlos for a relaxing glass of good wine. It's cozy inside and feels a bit romantic, outside has really nice seating, perfect for summertime.

I just love this place. It’s such a great neighborhood low key vibe but mixed with some of the best food I’ve had in the Bay Area - unpretentious but inventive, high quality and just hand down delicious. I love that everyone who works at Bottleshop seems to really believe in Bottleshop. It means a lot to have all your staff excited about what this place is doing. The owners are well versed in all things wine and always have something fun on hand. Could not recommend this place more.

BEST everything! A must visit. We were on a tour of California and kept returning - best steak we've ever had - the paella was fabulous - the duck confit, amazing - the charcuterie platter is ridiculously good - all washed down with amazingly delicious wines paired perfectly by the expert taste buds of sommelier, chef and owner, John Graham-Taylor - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The Bottleshop is a gem in Redwood City that surpasses all expectations! It feels like a place where people really do know your name and the staff gets to know you & your individual style of wine. Becoming a wine member and understanding wines far and wide across the world is their niche. I cannot say enough about their friendly staff and their knowledge of fine wine!

We held a pre-wedding welcome party here and they did a fabulous job. The food, the wine and the service were exceptional. In addition, because there is limited seating, a lot of mixing and socializing occurred. Fabulous!

Food bites are divine and service is wonderful. Great place for a date night - recommend the Brie and toasted nuts as well as the cheese board. So yummy
