I have eaten here once but ordered takeout about a dozen of times. Every meal from Roku has been great! Pretty consistent with taste and preparation. I don't eat raw fish so my usual is avocado cucumber sushi, California roll and garden salad with lotus crisps. 5 stars for taste, quality, freshness, presentation, service and value--especially relative to other Japanese restaurants I have tried ordering these same items. Every time results in a satisfactory treat for the tummy and taste buds; every time I feel like I want more even if I am full. I have tried their teriyaki chicken on a busy Saturday evening, and honestly, that is not something I would order there again. That being said, I will be coming back again and again for my usual items.

Sushi quality is consistent and the best in town. Service is quick even when it is busy on a hot summer Friday night. 10/10 would recommend anyone to try.

Tim at Roku Sushi in Roseville made this visit such a great experience. He’s not only an amazing sushi chef but also super friendly and welcoming. You can tell he really cares about both the food and the people at his bar.

Every dish looks great and tastes even better. He’s creative, consistent, and makes the whole experience fun by explaining dishes, giving recommendations, and keeping things relaxed and personal.

Tim’s passion and kindness really make the meal memorable. I’ll definitely be coming back, and if you go to Roku Sushi, sitting with Tim is a must.

My official favorite Japanese Food in the Sacramento area after only one visit. Perfect mix of casual atmosphere, but beautiful food presentation, friendly service and fresh tastes that can be modern or traditional. The Chowanmushi with uni added will bring me back every time, but everything we ate was fresh clean and delicious. Ramen and Dahi broths were legit! We only took the star off of Atmosphere because it isn't fancy and formal, which actually is a bonus for everyday comfort. I did not see the overuse of peppers, Sriracha or cream cheese with cooked sushi dishes here (thank god), but when they did use a little spicy element it was they balanced and nuanced. The pickled wasabi condiment was a game changer. My wife is Asian and I have been to Asia several times including Japan, so we have a palate for these foods. Roku had fresh takes on ingredients, but also traditional flavor profiles. Prices were actually reasonable for the portions and quality. Very excited to go back.

Excellent rolls, great presentation. Quality is the equal of any sushi restaurant in Placer County. Staff is very helpful. Food gets to the table quicker than the main competition. Overall, this is our new favorite sushi place.

First time experience here:
It’s a smaller, intimate atmosphere. The details from the art, to the chopsticks were precise.
The food!!! I didn’t take a photo of the Miso Soup but it’s the best I’ve had. And I’ve had a lot of Miso…now for the rolls.
First picture is the crab crunch. The flavors were amazing, fresh ingredients. Second picture was the Angel roll. BLEW MY MIND. The mango paired with everything else…like nothing I’ve had before. The sauce that came with it (spicy mayo and garlic aioli) were the cherry on top. And in the background of the quickly taken photos would be the Philly roll, delicious and one of the best I’ve had experience. The rice was thicker and cooked perfect. The staff was polite, punctual, and on top of clearing tables, filling refreshments, and simply just checking in.
Shoot, even the bathroom was one of the nicest I’ve seen at any Japanese/Chinese/Korean restaurant I’ve been to. I take pride in my reviews and would HIGHLY recommend this place.
Great job to everyone who works here, the owners should be proud of this establishment.
10000/10 recommend. Will be coming back as soon as we can!

I’ve been to Roku Japanese Cuisine multiple times now, and it consistently delivers one of the best sushi / Japanese dining experiences in the area.

The food is outstanding across the board—fresh, well-executed, and thoughtfully put together. You can tell there’s real attention to detail in everything that comes out of the kitchen. The fish quality … nigiri… top-tier, and the menu has a great balance.

The staff is always excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Service here feels intentional, not just transactional.

The owner, Simon, does a fantastic job running the place. He’s present, engaged, and clearly cares about both the guest experience and his team. That kind of leadership shows in the consistency.

Also worth calling out—the yuzu beers are phenomenal. Not something you see everywhere, and they pair perfectly with the food.

Overall, this place just gets it right. Strong recommendation if you’re in the Roseville / Rocklin area.

My husband and I went in the middle of the lunch rush on Easter Sunday and were promptly seated! The restaurant was pretty busy and our server had her hands full but still was super attentive and kind!

We got the Sunomono salad, a salmon avocado roll, blue fin tuna sashimi and the sweet potato roll. It was more than enough to share between the two of us for lunch.

The sunomono salad was a super refreshing start to lunch. The tuna sashimi was so smooth and had a really great flavor. The salmon avocado roll was good as was the sweet potato roll. The price was more than reasonable.

Overall, my favorite part was the hospitality!! Even when busy, every single person from our server, the woman who bussed our section, the men prepping sushi behind the bar and everyone else in the staff greeted us, chatted, and said goodbye as we walked out. It was like a Michelin restaurant with the way we were treated lol.

Would 100% eat here again!!

This Japanese restaurant in Roseville performs consistently across expected metrics. Sushi rice displayed proper texture, entrée temperatures were correct, and order accuracy remained high. The dining room maintained acceptable cleanliness, and service interactions were brief and functional. A predictable and stable dining environment.

This restaurant creates a calm and almost meditative atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The presentation of each dish feels thoughtful, and the balance of flavors is precise without being overwhelming. The sushi is fresh, but what stands out is the attention to detail — the rice texture, the temperature, the subtle seasoning. It feels like the experience was designed to slow you down and let you enjoy every bite.

This is an unassuming little restaurant we found across the parking lot from our hotel. It eas very convenient because we had had a long day and didn't feel like driving. From the outside it looks like a typical storefront restaurant, but once we entered, we knew we had found a good sushi restaurant once we saw servers walking by with beautiful plates of sushi rolls and sashimi.

Service was decent but not great. While our server quickly took our drink and food orders and checked on us several times, there were a couple of minor issues. First, we had ordered a couple of hot appetizers (gyoza and the seasoned edamame). They came out quickly (and were delicious), but before we could even make a dent in them our main dishes came out. Servers should pace the meal so that diners have adequate time to eat their appetizers before eating their main dishes, otherwise the appetizers and/or the main dish gets cold. The second issue was that while we had paid our check, the busser began clearing our table before I had finished my beer and my wife had finished her drink. We didn't intend to dally, but we did want time to finish our drinks. This made the meal feel rushed.

As for the food, it was excellent. The aforementioned gyozas and edamame were very nice. We ordered a couple of pieces of nigiri (tamago and eel) and they were not only delicious, but beautiful as well. We ordered a couple of specialty rolls (the Roseville and the Angel's Kiss) and both were fantastic.

All in all it was an excellent meal. We are planning on going back to try one of their bento box lunches in the next day or so.
