Great new downtown restaurant from the folks at Allora. Food is great, customer service is great and happy hour is perfect. Can’t beat a good $6 glass of wine

Aiona offers a classy yet unstuffy dining experience in downtown Sacramento, with food, service, and ambience that impress from the first visit. The team is pleasantly warm, and the waitstaff is attentive without hovering. Happy Hour is a highlight, featuring the Mediterranean Moulari, a refreshing drink with lemon and ginger (note it contains vodka). The Date Pudding topped with Greek Yogurt Gelato is a delicious recommendation. Small plates like Kalamari, lightly fried and tasty, Papas Bravas with crispy outside and soft inside, and Souvlaki with tender skewers of beef/lamb over tzatziki are all well received. For dinner, the salad, branzino, steak, and dessert are outstanding, with the Halibut well prepared and delicious. The Tiramisu is excellent, and the Gelato (Straciatelli) is to die for. The quality of ingredients is pretty good, if pricey, but worth it. The dinner menu is more expansive than lunch, so guests plan to return. Parking is available via valet, a paid lot next door, or curbside across the street. Aiona occupies the building previously Esquire Grill on the corner of 13th & K Street.
