I recently visited Boxcar Eats in Old Sacramento and to be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed. The place looks fun from the outside with signs for Dole Whip and Tillamook Ice Cream, which definitely caught my eye. Inside, the decor was kind of cool with colorful chandeliers and lots of seating, but the atmosphere felt a bit empty and lacking energy—even though it was evening.

A lot if folks on here complaining about prices … it’s historic Old Town. Rents are high & foot traffic in winter is subpar. Go to Florin if you want cheap eats or stay home.Cashier was very nice. Gave us the coldest and most refreshing free cups of water to go with our Dole whip. Texture wasn’t exactly as creamy as Disneyland Dole whip but it was dairy free & what our lactose intol group members needed.
