It's the first time I've been in since the shop changed hands. But could you tell it changed hands. The service was slow considering how many people were there & what they were waiting for. They were also complaining about the wait. The staff seemed annoyed to be there & were more interested in their own conversations than helping folks. Someone else mentioned that the toaster was blamed for the delay & 2 mo later, they are still using that for an excuse. Then talked to each other about how they aren't getting the old one that worked back. Don't know what that's about but it's a basic need of you are serving toasted bagels & not that big of a cost. Counter at the pick up spot was filthy but the pastries looked good. No cream products of any kind out & when I asked, I was given a plastic half gallon of half & half that was then left on the counter. Yikes. I popped in because of convenience but I'll go out of my way to drive to Camellia over coming back. I'm bummed, I really used to like that place.

Chocolate Fish Roasters on Freeport Boulevard is a great-looking café with solid food and coffee. The avocado toast and nut butter toast were both delicious, and the Americano was smooth and strong. The interior has a nice upscale vibe, and there’s plenty of outdoor seating if you want to sit in the sun.
Parking, however, is a pain. You’ll likely end up walking a quarter mile unless you luck out with a spot. It’s a true neighborhood café, which is nice, but it’s definitely not easy to access.
Now for the worst part…. The bathrooms. You need a key from the counter, which is wet, grimy, and clearly passed around all day. The bathroom itself feels neglected, with no paper towels and a weak hand dryer that just blows around bathroom air. You can’t even open the door cleanly afterward. It completely kills the premium feel of the place. The staff wasn’t especially friendly either, which didn’t help. Still, the food and coffee earn it five stars, but it’s wild that such a polished café has bathrooms that feel like a gas station’s.

Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters is hands down one of the best coffee spots I’ve ever been to. The moment you walk in, you can feel their passion for coffee — from the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the care they put into every single cup. The baristas are not only friendly but truly knowledgeable, always happy to recommend something new or explain the story behind the beans.
The coffee itself is exceptional. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced — you can tell they source and roast with incredible attention to detail. Their pour overs are phenomenal, the espresso is bold yet refined, and the seasonal drinks are creative without ever being over the top. Everything tastes fresh, clean, and crafted with love.
Beyond the drinks, the vibe is relaxed and inviting — the kind of place you want to linger, whether you’re catching up with a friend or just enjoying a quiet moment with your cup.
If you love coffee, this place is a must. Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters doesn’t just serve coffee; they celebrate it. Easily a five-star experience every single time!

Went in for the first time. Misread the menu so I asked the gal behind the counter a question about it to clarify and was met with the most awkward attitude & rude stare as if I stole her dog out of her arms. Wanted to order food as well & told “actually our toaster is being cleaned”. Don’t think this is a unique experience either lol
Got a pour over and worked on some stuff on my laptop. It was a great experience!

I live in the area and have been frequenting this place for two years now and finally feel ready to provide feedback.
Since it’s one of the few craft coffee shops in the area, so it’s always busy, but there are things that need improvement so people actually enjoy their experience, not just go here because it’s convenient for the neighborhood. I never enjoy my experience but I really want to, and have hopes that we can!
First, the baristas are always so slow. I’ve been at many various times, and it’s always unnaturally slow regardless of the time or crowd. I’ve never experienced this slowness at other coffee shops that are just as popular in midtown, for example. It’s very frustrating, regardless if I’m in a rush on a weekday morning or weekend afternoon. Second, the staff is never pleasant. For example, the bathroom key sticks in the door and whenever I’ve had trouble getting it out they respond annoyed and act like it’s my fault. I get they may be annoyed at the situation if it happens a lot, but they need to remain professional and neutral. Other times are when I’m using a gift card, or confirm if a drink is mine. It’s always curt remarks.
Lastly, the patio could use improvement. A few more umbrellas or a canopy, some greenery, to provide better shade, would go a long way, considering otherwise it’s just a concrete slab.

This is the Snooty location. The coffee is delicious, the employees however lack people skills! I love trying different coffee spots in Sacramento! This is the only spot that needs new hires. 😊

Best dirty chai in Sac, some of the worse service in Sac. Pricy and slow, but good coffee. Can’t attest to their food options. Very limited car parking; ensure you walk or bike
