I hate to give a bad review but here goes. Im giving it a 2 to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the waitress or chef or both called in sick. Mondays are notoriously slow and they just phoned it in...For my dinner, I thought the place was closed, had to double check the outside, dead silent, not even a fan was stirring, few tables stacked in the front room like they didn't bother to set them out to facilitate any number of guests because why, tvs off, open grill also off, pictures tilted on the wall, finally found someone with -1 personality and was told to sit anywhere in the giant back room of empty tables. Ordered two apps against my better judgment off the 1/5 page menu that was available. Duck came out pretty quick, figure it was a reheat job. Potato scallion cake thing took forever and was too hot to eat for quite some time...probably didn't have the fry oil up to temp yet. Popped in about 5:45, they opened at 5. Minor issues but too many of them. I wasn't mad, it was my choice to blaze past these obvious red flags. I'm sure on another day of the week it might be up to sub-par. Didn't finish the potato thing, just wanted to leave, felt sad, guy never came back, I had to go get him to pay. Sorry but I felt Shanghai. I wish them the best.

This place has amazing dumplings. Food is great. Atmosphere is unique and fitting for Old Sacramento. I love bringing guests here. But the service is lacking. This tied for midtowns best Dumpling. But overall all score for Sacramento's best dumpling restaurant didn't make the top three. We ate outside because we felt unwelcome inside.
Quest to find the best dumpling House in midtown. I organized a walking tour through midtown for my family. 8 adults and 3 kids. I created score cards to mark on a 1 to 10 scale. We scored dumplings, pot stickers, appetizers, dipping sauce regular and spicy and overall return score. If anyone would like to make the trek we started at I Shanghai Delight to Hao Bao Dumplings to Dumpling King to The Dumpling House to Tea Cup Cafe to Journey to the Dumpling and finally the Hidden Dumpling House. In short the best Dumpling House in midtown based on 8 differing opinions is in 1st place Hao Bao Dumplings on K st. With 6 categories and 8 judges and 10 being top score it's a total possibility of 480 points. Only 2 points separated 2nd and 3rd with 2nd place going to the Dumpling House on 24th and Jst. 3rd Tea Cup Cafe. Each restaurant is well worth a return visit and all were great. The scores are just 8 people's opinions and we as lovers of dumplings were the real winners. Side note cost was also considered in return score and 1 restaurant gave us extra dishes and refunded our initial check. We didn't let that affect our scoring and we appreciate the offer and we paid for everything we ordered and gave 20 percent extra but it all went towards the gratuity. And other restaurants gave a little extra appetizers which is appreciated but unnecessary because going to 7 places in 4 hours eating 3 items at each stop turns into a lot of food thank goodness for the 3.6 mile walk to burn those calories and keep up the appetite. We had a car parked near our last stop otherwise it would be another 2.4 miles straight back to the Old Sacramento parking garage. The cost without gratuity was 396.00 we carried our own water bottles and only bought drinks at Hidden Dumpling as a final treat. Each restaurant has elements to make it your favorite, so try the all but one at a time is best.

A thoroughly weird experience. The wife and her kids wanted to go. I really don't like Asian food. We were the only ones there. Waiter seemed legitimately pissed off we showed up, at noon. anyway half the menu isn't being made anymore, so no hot dishes. Anyway they order several items. Items come out one at a time. Waiter still irritated. Whatever. Here's the deal. The food was actually very good and I don't generally like Asian. Price were very reasonable. This could be a hidden gem but they need to make some serious changes. Quickly.

I Shanghai Delight was such a fun and unique experience because it offered dishes I don’t usually see on Sacramento menus. Located in Old Sacramento, the restaurant feels like a hidden spot, and stepping inside, you immediately get the sense that this is where locals go for something truly different. I ordered the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and they were outstanding - perfectly delicate wrappers filled with rich, flavorful broth and tender pork. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, and I couldn’t stop raving about them. I also tried one of their noodle dishes, and it was just as impressive: chewy noodles with a sauce that was savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, and the staff were friendly and quick to offer suggestions when I asked. What I appreciated most was that the menu felt adventurous - it gave me the chance to try authentic Shanghai-style flavors without having to travel halfway across the world. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you want to bring a group of friends so you can sample as much as possible. I Shanghai Delight is truly one of Sacramento’s hidden treasures.

Dont let the quiet and sparse atmosphere disused you. I was then only person there and no music was playing but the food is actually pretty good. I got some steamed dumplings and they hit the spot.

Delicious food, very flavorful with how tender the duck tasted. The sauce they braised it with was very flavorful. I had also the pork dumplings and bun. Lots of flavor and very delicious for both. It was very calming and relaxing in the place.

First of all. The place has good atmosphere, but also very messy and disorganized. What surprised me was we sat down, we were handed the menu, shortly after, the server came to our table and said, we have no hot food today. A restaurant has no hot food? that was great! Maybe should close that door instead. Not recommended at all.
