my favorite place to dine on fresh and tasty at a competitive price. It's one of my go to for great food.

Read the health inspection reports. So sad. Seems like they have a pest problem for sometime. Their loyal customers deserve better.

It's worse than I remember. There are much better dim sum places around Sacramento. I would avoid this place.

I love dim sum and I've tried just about every dim sum spot here in Sacramento and this is my least favorite. The location - it seems very misplaced when you arrive outside. It's a 2 story building but the first floor is literally a fish tank and bathrooms. They have tables below by apparently they do not serve anyone downstairs. There are several signs to send you up stairs for dim sum. The service - we were quickly seated around noon and not even a minute after sitting, we had carts lined up to get to our table at the back of the restaurant. Great, we were starving and wanted a quick bite (the reason why we decided to come here). The workers were very attentive to cleaning out the empty plates & containers. The ladies pushing the carts were very pushy. Lol, they kept asking if we wanted the same dish over and over again. But, one lady did here us talking about the sesame seed ball because we didn't see it on a cart so she brought it out for us. Very nice. The food - worst quality dim sum in Sacramento. The fried foods weren't crunchy enough. The season was off, kind of bland really. The sauce they drizzle over the Chinese broccoli was overly sweet. Usually it's hoisin but this one tasted completely off. We also got a pork rib plate that looked good but tasted old. Fail. 1 Star for good enough service, but that's about it.

A secret gym hidden in midtown that I hope the masses never find out about. Most families go to South Sac for dim sum, but on the weekends you can expect long wait times and crowded tables. My family of 11 walked straight through New Canton's doors at 11 am on a Saturday morning with no trouble. Restaurant is located upstairs-which is accessible by elevator or stairs. Plenty of tables for giant parties, graduations, birthdays, etc. Dim Sum is nothing short from amazing with all the typical dishes you'll find. So fresh, warm, and delicious. We were bombarded with carts because, again, secret gem. heh. Friendly service with even the manager walking around to check up on us. New Canton will forever be my Dim Sum place in Sacramento from here on forward.

My Life

Good authentic Chinese food in wider plates and bowls. The price is better than what is right. Enjoy

Our favorite Chinese restaurant. The staff is very kind. My husband has certain food restrictions and they always work with him. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

There's a noticeable lack of dim sum restaurants in the greater Sacramento/Davis area, so I've ended up at New Canton's door quite a few times. Comparatively to the ones I've been to in Southern California, either a smaller number of guests or some other factor results in a smaller number of options to choose from, room temperature or below room temperature food, or slow food turnover time. As prefaced earlier, although it's not the best dim sum that I've had before, a lack of options ultimately has me coming back whenever I or my family is craving dim sum. Moving onto some of the items, the Beef Tripe, or cow stomach, is pretty decent here. It's not too tough as to be inconvenient to eat, but also not too soft whereas to have an unpleasant gooey and gushing consistency; the flavor is pretty good, with the garlic taste not too overpowering. The Ha Gow is also good, but I'll refrain from saying "pretty good" because it's pretty hit or miss, as it usually returns with a harder consistency when the crowds have died down. Shumai is the same way, desirable most when there are a lot of other individuals in the restaurant. In general, weekends during the usual lunch hours are the best time to go; if you eat off hours, either on weekdays or after lunch hours, you may find the quality of your experiences low. On a good day, everything is decent, and I do wish at times that there were more dim sum restaurants to choose from in this area.

Wasn't a fan. We had Dim Sum for dinner and it tasted poorly. I think it had been sitting there since lunch, was pretty bad. We ordered a fresh dish off their dinner menu and it was wonderful. So, maybe for lunch Dim Sum would be better.

Been here at least twice. The food was pretty good. I had some good memories there. Recommend going with a few friends so that you can try more items.

This place is the go-to for southern Chinese food. Southern Chinese food is typically dim sum, stir fries and barbecue items. The owners are originally from NYC and they know how authentic southern Chinese food should taste like. Dim sum are available on the weekends on rolling carts where you just point at what you want. It is the most authentic experience you can get in Rochester. There may be a wait during weekend lunch hours though. There is a grocery next door and you can get a decent amount of Asian groceries. Their barbecue pork are to die for. During the weekend hours, you should try their tofu pudding (basically very silky tofu that you can mix with simple syrup)! Delish!

3.5 stars. Good dim sum for when you're downtown and don't feel like driving further to South Sac (for those of us who don't live that direction). However, for the dimsum portion, I felt it was just so-so. I think I prefer Hong Kong Islander or Bay Area's Dim Sum King more than this location. The parking lot is pretty small and the spaces are very compact, which gets my husband nervous about door dings. There's additional parking behind the restaurant someplace too. When we walked in, it was clear the place hasn't been remodeled or cleaned deeply in some time. The carpets look worn and everything is very dated. Paint is chipping off the walls and ceilings too. I couldn't help thinking that if the chairs are so old, maybe they could invest in some chair/seat covers. And it just so happened that we were seated below a vent, which was equipped with a filter that hadn't been changed in a long time. Tons of gray dust particles lingering there. Not sure if I just didn't notice these things in the past or if it's just aged over the years. I remember attending wedding receptions here in the past. Now, the thought of having a wedding banquet there seems kinda sad. The employees were attentive and friendly. Food was decent. Price was average. Would come back if we were in the area, but if we had time to drive further, we probably would have gone someplace in South Sac instead for better quality food.

I don't know how I haven't written up this place already! When I was home over thanksgiving break, there really isn't much else better than meeting up with friends for dim sum!! Plus it serves as great overeating training ground for thanksgiving itself! New Canton's whole upstairs is all dim sum oriented and they open at 10am, and we pulled into the parking a few early and there were already people parked and standing in line, which you know is a good sign. Plus, the other thing I love about dim sum is the food is already ready and just comes around on carts and you can pick and choose what you want. It is affordable, the servers are really friendly, you can tell they take pride in the food they serve, and they are family and large group friendly, since the food just keeps on coming! Their dumplings are all pretty tasty, and the pork buns we didn't even want to share. The turnip cakes were a little more fishy than we thought they would be, but the chinese broccoli and the short ribs and the rice noodles with pork all made up for that pretty easily! So definitely need to remember this place the next time I am in town!

Lots of favorites at NC. Welcoming and quick service. Carts come at you fast and furious, so the ladies are trained to be there at every turn and bite. Steamed dishes, dumplings, jook and braised items are really hot. The fried dishes, BBQ, roasted, baked or pre-prepared items get cold too fast. So the fat starts to congeal and coat your tastebuds. Reasonable prices. Well seasoned. The location has a wide menu with several very inexpensive set dinners. Attentive servers and managers when we were visiting TksGiving weekend. The place has been there a few decades and looks like it's time for refurbishment and fresh paint.
