0 stars. Poor service.

After 10 minutes of standing at the door to be acknowledged, a bus boy finally said he would clean a table for my wife, my two daughters, and myself. After another 10-11 minutes, no one acknowledged us (e.g. introduction bring menu, waters, chips order, etc.), nothing! I went to the front and grabbed menus for my family and I.

Another 10 minutes passed by, and I saw another family who arrived after us get greeted and served. I'm extremely disappointed. We walked out without any effort of the restaurant personnel to try and correct/redeem themselves.

Incredible food! The chicken mole was on special today and the chicken was literally falling off the bone, and the mole was some of the best I've ever had. We also got pupusas, which were yummy. And high quality chips and salsa. My partner wanted grilled jalapeños, which were not on the menu, and they agreed and then didn't charge us. Prices also very reasonable. We spent $30 with no drinks. At lunch on a saturday, the place was busy but still plenty of seating. Clearly the locals love this place too. And the waiters were all super sweet.

Very high-quality food with prompt service in a pleasant environment. We had delicious freshly-made pupusas and the best birria res plate I've ever had. We will return!

Excellent food. Yelp said it is the best Mexican restaurant in Salinas, and I have no reason to disagree.

The pupusa was incredible, the best I’ve ever had! The enchiladas, beans, and rice were disappointing. The beans were watery and not flavorful and the rice was bland. The salsa verde on the enchiladas was great, but the tortillas were very thick and there wasn’t a lot of chicken in them. I’d go back for the pupusas, but would try something else as an entree. Takeout time was fast and accurate ordering.

El Chilacatazo‘s food and service was superb. I had the molcajete for the first time and it was unbelievable. I was in hog heaven.
The only reason the restaurant did not receive 5 stars was because I went to the bathroom and it definitely needed attention. This should not deter anyone from enjoying a meal here. I highly recommend El Chilacatazo.
