Like most hotels in this area, it's showing it's age... The rooms are spacious but in need of an face-lift. The lobby area is nothing to write home about, and the backyard is tiny, but still has a firepit... Was OK for a one night stop near Monterey & Carmel, but I wouldn't go back... The staff are quite friendly & helpful though...
This place is dirty and unsafe and has rooms from the 1980s. No security whatsoever, not in a particularly safe area. The front staff are nice, but it's a what can they do situation. I checked out after one night and had a week-long reservation.
Excellent accommodations. The room was spacious, very clean, and well-maintained. All staff members were friendly and professional. There is a large, clean, and well-equipped workout room and a coin-op laundry room with washer and dryer.
Clean, reasonable sized rooms. Friendly staff. They have a lou he/bar which is fairly quiet but easy to grab a bite and stay in
As soon as we checked in the room, we smelled this powerful smoke odor. It was like someone smoked in the room. If you are looking for none smoking environment, you must stay away from this hotel. We did not have a very comfortable night there and will never return.
Dirty, nasty rundown hotel. Everything is falling apart and is incredibly gross. The bedrooms resemble a sterile mental institution and the bathrooms that of a prison. I wouldn’t let my dog sleep here. Buyer beware. Each night there was at least 5 cars drag racing through the parking lot until midnight, just an incredibly awful experience all around.
This is more a PSA than a hotel review. This place is THE WORST. We’ve been moved to 3 different rooms, all of which had something broken (important things such as the lock on the door, Heat/AC, TV. ) I didn’t think to go check everything out in the room beforehand, so we’ve had to pack and repack twice. The showers do not provide enough water pressure to rinse the shampoo from my hair. The beds suck. We eventually ended up stealing some of the comforters from one of the rooms they were they put us in just so we could stay warm. We tried to open the window to let a little cool air in, but they are bolted shut. (This makes sense, as there is a homeless encampment in the parking lot across the street.) I’ve literally begged the staff just to get us in a working room. For some reason it seems beyond anyone’s ability to remedy. Marriott should not associate itself with this particular hotel. You have been warned.
Love it and enjoyable stay

It isn't open
We did not feel like the property was maintained very well with bags of smelly garbage up and down the hallways. Staff was very short and unfriendly even given my platinum level loyalty. They charge for unsecured outdoor self parking which is absurd in my opinion. With the lobby under construction there wasn't anyplace outside of the guestroom for families to eat breakfast or stage for activities. I would not recommend this hotel.
The hotel claims to be pet friendly, so we booked a room only to find out on arrival there is a non refundable pet fee of $100 per pet per night. While we understand properties may need to protect themselves from potential damages and may take some refundable security deposit. The policies in this case are driven by greed and are very unusual. The worst part is these fees are not disclosed during the booking process they are all "pet friendly" there, but then you find out that is just a cover to lure in bookings and take advantage of people and their pet situation. Dishonest and borderline illegal. Stay away from these crooks.
At check-in we weren’t told that there would be a charge for parking, and we weren’t told that linens would be changed only upon request. No notice was given to us. In our room, hanging from the towel rack, was a card stating that, if you wanted towels changed, you should leave them in the tub. Our shower door leaked, creating a puddle on the floor, and the toilet seat was dangerously loose. When we checked out, I told the front desk person about these two needed repairs. She didn’t thank me or offer anything. An appropriate response would have been thanks and an offer of points or waiver of the ridiculous parking fee. (Free parking on the public street was available within 50 yards of the hotel entrance.) When the friend traveling with us told the assistant manager that she and her husband had returned to their room late the previous night to find their wet towels piled in the tub, the assistant manager responded that the guests should have read the notice provided at check-in (none was provided). When management’s attitude is that problems are the guests’ fault, that attitude filters down to all staff members. A very ordinary room without an included breakfast isn’t worth Courtyard prices, particularly when customer service is lacking. With plenty of other options in Salinas and Monterey, we won’t stay at this Courtyard again.
