If you haven’t tried their sausage rolls, you haven’t lived. Chef’s kiss for this place!

More stars, please! It is a shame that Google doesn't allow dancing stars, or a bucket of stars because a mere five stars just don't do it for the GBBS!
Where to begin? Some context. I'm married to a Brit, I've lived in the UK, and I've got a dirty little love for a steak and ale pie. I'm also a foodie, so maybe a bit of a pie critic too.
Last week, Mr Brit comes home looking like the cat who ate the canary offering to make dinner. I'm pretty sure he's killed the dog, or impregnated someone. Feeling a pit in my stomach, I return to my office and wait for "dinner". Once, I try to sneak into the kitchen and notice a towel obscuring the oven door...."Great" I think. "Whatever he's done is so bad he's going to burn the house down with us in it". Turns out, knowing my passion for steak and ale he was just actually being adorbs as he worked to bring a surprise ending to a rubbish day.
Let's start with the crust. There are two camps: pastry dough and more of a flaky dough. I love the pastry, hate the crumble and mess of the flake. But the pastry can be heavy and dense. Not at the GBBS! They have, via some magic alchemy, made a dough that stands up to the pastry test, is hearty enough to house steak and ale, but is light enough to allow you to get up off the chair after eating something so decadent. Really. This dough is beyond magic. It's LOVE, and there is even a cute pastry heart atop the pie to remind you lest you could forget (impossible).
Now fillings. Even in the UK, a lot of pies are a splash of meat in an ocean of sauce. Not here. This little magic beast is packet with quality meat, and even a few peas and some carrot..there's that love again.
There should be a stampede on this place. Why are more local restaurants not selling these products? GBBS why am I not seeing you at farmers markets? Where is your pop up shop on Cannery Row? Let's get serious. Walk out of work, leave school. Do what you have to do, just get to the GBBS for some food and love. It will be the best thing you've done for yourself in a long while. Heck, sneak over for some take away and make your partner fall in love with you all over again...
Now, on to my next goal at GBBS....the scones!

This place is a hidden gem. Since it was our first time we tried a variety of different types of pies and pastie. My favorite was the beef pastie and veggie curry pie. The spicy sausage roll was just as good. The owners were very nice and friendly. A must try if you’re in the area!!

Authentic and British to the core, these folks have great food, wonderful quality, fast service and fantastic attitude. They provide awesome catering services, too. Always delicious baked goods and a sunny disposition from the owners and staff - order ahead - everything they make is popular. 5-stars all the way!

I was on the hunt for something sweet to curb my cravings, and thanks to my girlfriend's suggestion, we stumbled upon the Great British Bake Shop. Even though we arrived close to closing time and some goodies were already sold out, this little gem left a big impression.I managed to get my hands on a lemon tart, despite not being a fan of lemon-flavored desserts. To my surprise, this lemon tart was a game-changer! It was absolutely amazing and blew my taste buds away. The staff was not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about their products. Their enthusiasm was infectious, making the visit even more enjoyable.I'm already looking forward to returning during earlier hours so I can explore the full range of delectable baked goodies before they sell out. If you're in the area, don't miss the Great British Bake Shop. It's a delightful spot for satisfying your sweet tooth, and I can't recommend it enough!
What a wonderfully delicious find! Savory or sweet the pastry is flaky and lovely. Very friendly owner/bakers too.
The Great British Bakery is a Old Town Salinas bake shop with delicious tarts and pasties.
I work within walking distance and know it very well, having been in over a dozen times. I recommend the Bakewell and Millionaire if you want something sweet.
The two owners are there every day -- there's something special about small, owner-operated businesses. I feel like I can taste the difference when goods are made with love and dedication (and not sealed in plastic on the other side of the country!). It also feels good to support local businesses.
And the small staff is always friendly and polite.
Definitely check this place out if you want to be greeted with a smile and leave with something sweet or savory.
Delicious treats
My favorite place in Oldtown to grab a tasty treat! ??
SO fresh. We happened to stop in driving through town and we were so pleasantly surprised. The pastry is so flakey and buttery and the ingredients taste so fresh. Great place to stop. Apple turnover and sausage roll are a must!

Was kind of surprised at the size of the pie, but it was STUFFED with steak. Flavor was awesome. Had a beef pasty too. It was very good. Iced tart was delicious. I'll be back!

Friendly owner and good food. Up to UK standard? No, but better than most “English” food you’ll find anywhere near.Prices although not inexpensive are reasonable.Hours of operation are challenging if you don’t live in Salinas.Overall, I recommend a visit.
great, but would be leagues better if not for the lack of weekend hours.
Authentic British pies, including mince (fruit) pies at Christmas time. The menu is expanding over time.
