An island of solitude and a window into the world of San Diego of long ago. We were looking for a peaceful place and we found it. Amaya is a treasure located on Penasquitos Canyon, and offers a curated selection of entree by chrf and his team and wine to go with it. We had halibut, oysters from Baja and wine from Oregon and in a setting that one can appreciate the natural beauty and time goneby of San Diego. Great for special occassions like anniversaries, retirements and birthdays....
The Ken Wright wine dinner was exceptional! The Burrata Agnolotti with LatchKey Pinot Noir and Wagyu Striploin with Auric Pinot Noir were my faves of the 5 course Menu. A very nicely done event by Amaya and Ken Wright Cellars of Oregon.
Not one of the better meals I have had there. The food was mediocre. Maybe the Breeders Cup crowd affected the food overall. Charcuterie was lacking quality, and they used to let you pick which items you wanted. However, the fig bread was excellent as usual. Wedge salad was very underwhelming. Tuna Crudo was OK but very small. Tuna was very fresh. Bistro burger was not very good. They are putting morrow in the sauce, not a good taste. Fries were excellent. Baked Alaska was excellent...
