A Must-Visit Seafood Spot in San Diego

This place is a true hidden gem—though not so hidden anymore! There's almost always a line stretching the length of the restaurant, and on busier days, it even spills out the door. But don't let that deter you—the line moves quickly, and the wait is absolutely worth it.

The seafood here is incredibly fresh and delicious, all at very reasonable prices. You simply can’t beat it. We’re particularly fond of the cioppino, mahi, and shrimp, though honestly, everything on the menu is fantastic. I could easily list every item they offer!

Do yourself a favor and visit this spot the next time you're in the area. You won't be disappointed!

I travel to San Diego on occasion, and when I can I try to hit Blue Water. The seafood is top notch in both quality and prep, whether fish fillets, scallops or fried calamari. Even the side salads are excellent!

My wife and I came here after eating at a well-known fish restaurant on the wharf, next to the USS Midway. Well, this place is a full factor better than that other place. But I came for the food. Not the view. Best shrimp I’ve ever had. The halibut was the best my wife had ever had. I’ll be here again!

This is a popular restaurant with many local customers. The dishes are relatively light and retain their original flavor, but I am a heavy-flavor eater.

A-MA-ZING fish at this place! Love the option to pick a fish, pick the marinade and pick how you want it, i.e. taco! Good size portions for what you pay for! Would come here every day if I lived in SD!

This place knows how to do seafood. It's not rocket science. You get the highest quality, freshest, local (whenever possible) seafood you can get and cook it to perfection. That's what they do here.
You choose from over a dozen different types of fresh fish, shrimp, crab, mussels, clams and they will prepare it on the spot any way you like it.
Choose a fish and one of 6 marinades and they grill it and serve it in a salad, a taco, a sandwich, or a plate- with rice and salad.
The sashimi combo plate practically melted in my mouth. I didn't even know it was possible to have tuna that fresh.
The hearty seafood soup with chunks of fish and vegetables in a fish broth with just the right amount of spice. My girlfriend had the clam chowder in a bread bowl. It was amazing.
Blackened local halibut tacos and grilled salmon with the teriyaki marinade on a plate with rice and salad. I could eat here every week.
I thought the price for the quality was a great deal.
Not like a lot of restaurants that try to have too many ingredients you've never heard of. Just straight forward quality seafood with just the perfect amount of seasoning/ marinade and simple ingredients. I can't wait to go back.

Such a great place. It's usually packed so I prefer pick up. I recommend the seafood combo salad, the clam chowder in bread bowl and tacos.

Tacos here are wayyyy underrated for this place. You never really hear about them, but I think they do better tacos than most "fish only" Mexican taco shops.

This place is easily my top-10. Consistently good quality food.

I really like fish tacos and onion rings so if they're on the menu, I'm ordering them. I ordered cod fish tacos and a side of onion rings and wasn't impressed.

The taco contained a large chunk of battered fish covered with a melody of coarsely chopped, blah tasting red onions, cabbage, tomatoes and scallions, covered with a drizzle of watered-down, flavorless mayo type white sauce, sitting upon a flaccid flour tortilla that required two hands to stop all the ingredients from falling out when you tried to pick it up. It was more like a Sloppy Jose taco. The easiest way to eat this would have meant breaking culinary law by using a knife and fork. Bite after bite I was aware of nothing special. Oh BTW, it came with a green sauce that I couldn't identify the taste of.

Now I wanted to try the taco with the sauce, but I didn't want to pour the sauce over my taco in case I didn't like it on the taco, so I held the taco and dipped it into the sauce. Turned out messy and frustrating. Needless to say I didn't like the tacos and it wasn't the fish, the fish was really good just the rest of the ingredients lacked flavor, seasoning.

The onion rings were coated in a coarse breadcrumb crust, kinda like the frozen rings you can buy at a grocery, taste like'em too.

Service was fine because there wasn't much needed. You stand in line, place your order and grab a seat, just like you do in McDonalds. One thing I can't understand is why these places don't have comfortable seating. The out-front seating is tilted and I had the displeasure of having my side of the table at chin level. Memories of childhood dinners flashed as I asked the waitress for a booster seat. Could have eaten no-hands without bending over. Kinda like a pie eating contest, except with tacos.

Can't judge a restaurant in just one experience, I will return. All-in-all I enjoyed the companionship of my friends, without sharing truthful commentary.
