I give this Carl’s Jr. a 4/5 stars, with food being a 3/5 and service a 5/5. It’s been around for years, but changed significantly with the massive remodel about 7-8 years ago.
I like the remodeled interior, which is simple but comfortable and has a decent amount of seating. The bathrooms are general clean as well. The outside look and landscaping are really quite nice for a fast food joint.
The food itself leaves a lot to be desired, though I think the less complex burgers are probably some of the better menu items. The jalapeño cheeseburger is usually pretty solid, as is the big burger and famous star.
The chicken tenders are pretty ‘meh’ here, as they’ve come out overly greasy and almost soggy for me a couple times. The fries are also hit or miss—when they’re good, they’re good, but when they’re bad they’re mushy and greasy.
Overall a 3/5 on food, consistently good fast food service at a 5, and reasonably comfortable and aesthetic interior. Stick to the simpler items like small burgers and chicken sandwiches and you’ll be OK.

June 17, 2024 11:20 AM to somewhere near noon. Atmosphere 3 stars because they greet every customer. Zero stars for service, because I asked for my food to be made fresh and it was not. Two employees lied, and laughed, and said everything was made fresh. Then a male worker stated the onion rings were made fresh, and that it looks the way it looks because of the ketchup, which was absurd. Two burgers looked made recently. One burger was definitely made earlier. It looked and felt hard. So none of it was made fresh. I returned one burger and the two onion rings, and requested fresh ones. Look at the picture of the original and the replaced items. My order was not made fresh. They even lied and said everything was made at the same time. The manager was respectful and polite. Yet there was no apology. The manager said he'd talk to them. The two workers laughed after the talk. Three workers then, laughed and spoke in Spanish up until I left the restaurant. I originally even gave the manager a dollar tip, or pay it forward to the next customer, because I had multiple condiments. As I got up to leave, the Postal worker sitting across from me, had a picture perfect fresh burger, fresh lettuce, fresh tomato, fresh bun. It looked like a commercial! I asked the Postal worker if she requested her sandwich be made fresh. She said no. I showed her the burger I was served, that I requested make fresh from the frozen patty. She looked shocked and laughed at the appearance of my food.

This is the second time I’ve ordered from Carl’s Jr., and my orders have been completely wrong. I’ve ordered three or four burgers in a bag, and there’s always one missing. The jalapeño poppers are always over-fried like they’re from previous days, and the meat is really bad. I’ve been coming here for years, and lately, the service from the new workers and the cook has been terrible. They forget orders, and the food quality is very poor. Carl’s Jr., this is the last time I’m buying from the location on Clairemont Mesa and Governor.

I've always liked this location. Dining room is always clean and well maintained. But I don't like the AI they have taking orders at the drive through. It is glitchy and seems to have trouble handling even basic orders. Sometimes it goes silent for long stretches and won't respond to anything you are saying. And even if it worked well...it is just weird and off-putting.

Our chicken sandwiches were freshly made and seemed to be cooked to order. The fries were also served hot and fresh. The quality of the food was outstanding. We had two grilled chicken sandwiches. I will admit we had trouble ordering with the new AI, but a person came on and helped us.

Is it not normal the place is close at 630pm on Sunday???
Used a buy one get one free combo meal, paid extra to change fires to jalepeno poppers and they send me one of the combos and an extra fry. On the bag no receipt was attached and on the tamper seal they did not write my name or how much items I had. I called the restaurant afterwards and told them the situation told me to go through the delivery app which I did do and they confirmed i infact ordered 2 combos, they then proceeded to hang up on me when I said I was infact still missing half my meal. the TLDR half my meal is missing and they didn’t label the bag properly so they could have just left the other half behind. When I call they hang up after I tell them the delivery app also shows I ordered 2 combos.

Do not use this location! I walked in. There are like nine employees with in vision. They say we’ll be right with you and leave me standing at the counter for five minutes. I say I’m leaving because you’re not helping me. They say OK. In broken English, of course. We can only combat this nonsense with our dollars do not go here.
