Although we normally sit on the patio, yesterday was a hot one so we opted for a table inside. As always, the food and service were fantastic. We brought two friends who had never eaten at Cocina de Barrio before and they both are looking forward to a return trip. We shared several small plates including the guacamole and the quesadillas de huitlacoche. Huitlacoche isn't widely available, even in San Diego, so I never miss a chance to enjoy it while eating at Cocina de Barrio. The El Soleado margarita had just the right kick and the mango and jalapeno margaritas were delicious. The menu is very unique, compared to much of the run of the mill Mexican cuisine served in many local spots. Give it a try!
This food is absolutely exceptional -fabulous inventive dishes! Great service and reasonable prices! The chef is amazing -thank you for bringing such an outstanding restaurant to Hillcrest!!
Very nice place to meet and eat a delicious meal. The portions are big and good.

Excellent food. Oyxcan style is not just tacos and enchiladas. Very unique menu. Both food & drinks. The mole sauce was the best. It was used in a variety of dishes. For example I ordered their short ribs with mole. WOW, it was great! The service was attentive & helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy!
I loved the place, nice staff, really good food, thanks for everything

Staff was very polite and offered suggestions when asked. Food was great! If you like spicy get their hot sauce. 🔥 Nice, family-friendly atmosphere.

Great experience. Walked right in & were greeted quickly as well as seated. Food is freshly made, tastes like a home cooked meal & the servings are incredibly large. I ordered the veggie hash, which was lovely. So much potato & veggie goodness. Leaving with leftovers, I had enough for 2 more meals, for a great price-under $20! Staff are kind & attentive. Highly recommend.

Birria tacos were decent, however the Aguachile negro the sauce consistency was nectar/gelatinous I didn’t like that at all, really alters the taste. Service from waiter was great. My low rating comes from being disappointed as to how dirty the restroom were. We were there for Sunday brunch and it had not been to busy. Also we were there for a while (well over 2hrs) and the whole time there, no one checked the bathrooms. I’d recommend they be check hourly at minimum. You could tell they had neglected to check bathrooms for hours. 😩

This is my favorite place for real Mexican Oaxacan food. The flavors are rich, the staff is nice, and the overall ambiance is great, especially in the outdoor patio. If you want to try real Mexican food and beverages, this is the place to visit! :)
Sure about the flavors that they claim
Not the typical Mexican Restaurant if you looking for something little bit more fancy!
Delicious food great atmosphere!
