Their tortillas...man oh man. I dream of them sometimes. The stuff they put inside the tacos, burritos, and quesadillas are decent too, don't get me wrong. But you could put anything on that floury goodness and I'd be sold. I try to stop whenever I drive by on Voltaire. Somehow my car seems to keep finding its way onto that street these days. So strange...

The tacos are awesome, the service is quick, the salsas are good. As close to a legit MX taqueria as you can get in AD.

Don Tommy's burritos have had a notable improvement, becoming an excellent option to enjoy food with authentic Mexican flavor in the United States. The sauce bar is a pleasant surprise: although you are far from Mexico, it offers a close and authentic experience. If you're Mexican, you'll especially appreciate details like the chicharrones with Valentina sauce, the kind that really stings, available at the checkout, and the freedom to help yourself with all the sauce you want. Personally, I recommend the salsa verde, which complements the burrito perfectly.
The corn tortilla is as it should be: well-made, and the carne asada has a savory flavor that definitely stands out. Also, I couldn't resist and ordered a sample of birria, which turned out to be delicious.
The prices are reasonable and in line with the quality, but I think it is ideal to order food to take away and enjoy it comfortably. It's definitely a place I would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Mexican flavors in the area.

Those homemade tortillas are to die for. Granted I am a foreigner (Canadian). I do know my Mexican food and this place is legit. Must try if you’re looking for an authentic place around here.

The carnitas meat was ok but fatty, but way too many onions overpowered the carnitas flavor. I wanted less onions, but the guy just looked at me and didn’t really allow that option to happen. Also, the flower tortillas don’t taste like anything I’ve had before…….and not in a good way. The flavor is off and changes the taste of the food completely. They taste like old oil that hasn’t been cleaned off the grill. they’re too thick and have an unpleasant old/oily odd taste.

Man, I had high hopes for Don Tommy’s, but it was kinda hit or miss. The California burrito? Fire, ??no complaints there. But the tacos? Straight averse, man. I don’t even know what was goin’ on with those fish tacos—straight up disgusting. Small pieces of fish, couldn’t taste them with the thick tortillas and the loads of purple cabbage. The churros were alright, but nothin’ special, like they were sittin’ around too long. The flour tortillas? Way too thick, felt like I was eatin’ dough. Customer service was decent, but it wasn’t enough to save the whole experience. Maybe I’ll give it another shot earlier in the day, but for now, it’s a 2-star from me.

So So good! those freaking homemade tortillas are a huge reason to go. The carne asada tacos and their veggie burrito are on point. But their genius is and has always been their salsa and tortillas. Do yourself a favor and go to Don Tommy's! I was there when Tommy opened it in the 90's and just went back on a work trip. still delicious!
A quaint restaurant with excellent tacos! A must try!

Being a Texas native, we take our Mexican food and BBQ seriously, and any time we travel, we're always searching for some hidden gems. Don Tommy's certainly delivered. The food was so delicious and flavorful, and I'd put it up against any Tex-Mex place back home. I only wish there was a little more seating, but I suppose that's pretty normal for small restaurants in SD. A definite must try!
