Called ahead on a busy Thursday morning for a mixed dozen box of donuts, $19, and was ready when I picked it up - great service and very efficient, the nice woman at the counter even gave some extra donuts, she must’ve been able to tell we had a busy day at work ahead! Plenty of parking and other breakfast and coffee options as well

Super friendly service, the BEST old fashioned donut I’ve ever had, and Diet Dr. Pepper in the can. Doesn’t get better than this!

So I'm visiting from out of town with my family, and I need my donut fix appeased. I made a note of several establishments, and this wasn't one of them until my wife made us go to a drug store nearby. Wow. Donut Star should've been on my list. We only got three donuts, but even late in the day, they tasted fresh. The fritter was on the small side, but very delicious. The cinnamon roll was huge, soft, and oh so good. The cake donut with the pink icing was also delicious, soft with just the right amount of sweetness. This place isn't fancy. It doesn't need to be. It's perfect.

Bummer that they don’t make French crullers here so I took off one star. But their butter milk bars are really good. Practically perfect.

The lightest and best doughnuts I've ever had. We really love the chocolate ring and the maple bars here!

I was running through Mission Hills in need of lunch and craving a breakfast sandwhich. Donut Star's breakfast sandwiches are made to order, hot and filling. Paired with a cup of coffee or a soda, it's a solid running around meal on the go.
But this time, I ran in and the glass cases were so full and enticing. The sugar and sun glinted glazes called to me. I ended up getting an Assorted dozen. The range included, sugar glazed, sugar raised, frosted yeast donuts, old fashioned cake donuts, frosted chocolate cake donuts, blueberry, coffee crumble, jelly powdered and cream filled, even lil apple fitters. These donuts are light and fluffy and MEEEEELT into puddles of butter and sugar, when you bite into them. Cut that with a bitter cup of coffee.
This is the weekday treat. The dozen so good that If you place this box on the counter, the donuts will call to you all day to keep breaking off another piece to "taste."
I called a neighbor on my way home, and we ended up sharing the box around the block.
If you're debating on bringing donuts to the office. You should absolutely bring a box, and you should get them from Donut Star.
Staff is friendly and fast.

My glaze donut was not fresh. When I asked if she would microwave the donut for 12 seconds, she said it could not be done. I could see the microwave directly behind her. For $2.25; an above average price. Below average and disappointing experience.
Donut Star is a cherished gem that perfectly encapsulates the essence of a childhood favorite donut shop. Every bite of their classic doughnuts is like a delicious time machine, transporting me back to fond memories of simpler times. The flavors are timeless, and every doughnut has a distinct, nostalgic charm that brings back happy memories. They offer orange, Ube, Pumpkin (seasonal) and all the other classic flavors.
They offer a wide selection of traditional favorites. From glazed to chocolate-covered, from jelly-filled to maple bars, every option is a testament to the classic donut shop experience. The variety ensures that there’s something for everyone.
The prices are reasonable, offering great value for high-quality doughnuts. The texture is crispy on the outside and a soft fluffy moist cake on the inside and the raised doughnuts are perfectly pillowy on the inside. The affordability makes it easy to indulge in these delicious treats regularly, which is a big part of their charm.
It's a cornerstone of sweet, nostalgic joy. They have two locations and both are out of the way for me and both are worth the drive as this is my number one favorite spot for classic doughnuts in San Diego. Boutique donut shops are great to splurge at once in a while but Donut star is where my childhood memories are in each bite.
For anyone seeking the timeless pleasure of classic doughnuts, Donut Star is the perfect destination. It’s a place where every bite brings back the magic of childhood, making it a beloved favorite for generations. It’s a classic hole in the wall donut shop that is 5 stars with every bite.
They also offer seasonal donuts. One of my favorites is the pumpkin donut during the fall! I love love their glazed, orange, white chocolate with sprinkles, and the cinnamon crumb doughnuts!
Parking: The parking lot is small but the service is fast during peak times so waiting for a spot is quick.
