Fort Oak is a restaurant in San Diego featuring a classic indoor-outdoor setup. The food is good, with enjoyable vegetable dishes such as roasted carrots and caulilini, and the ahi tartare is highly recommended for its impressive flavor with capers, zest, oyster mayonnaise, and egg yolk. The roasted caulilini is well executed, with excellent char and sauce, and the roasted carrots are thoughtful and delicious. Diners have enjoyed the lamb kefta and pork chop, described as flavor bombs that are still on their minds. The New York strip steak is a good entree, though some noted the cut and cooking could be better, and they prefer some potato element with their steak. The pasta special (Honey Garlic Sriracha) with shrimp is divine, with a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The seafood tower is good enough for sharing, while the wood grilled oysters are great for sharing as well. Cocktails like Camaro and Durango are highly praised, and drinks are unique and very good, although the whisky sour is good but felt overpriced at $25.
The service is generally great, with staff being awesome and attentive, especially during celebrations. The ambiance is nice and welcoming, with a modern setting. Portions are not very large, which may affect perceived value, but the food is prepared simply yet perfectly. Diners have enjoyed early dinners before busy hours, and some have had wonderful experiences with friendly greetings from staff. However, drinks can be very slow to arrive, which can be frustrating despite potentially saving money. Overall, Fort Oak offers high-quality food in a charming setting, making it a place worth returning to.
