It's was recommended to this place for the donuts and Vietnamese coffee.

Donuts are good. Coffee was just ok. There are better places in San Diego for Vietnamese coffee

Great local donut shop with friendly service. Seems like lots of regulars go in as well.

They also take Venmo/Zelle for payment without a CC surcharge.

The donuts were dry, honestly I think they were from the previous day. And the guy was not nice at all. I would never come back for donuts here, really disappointing.

They have been cheating on price adding amounts to the total with out justification. During COVID we always added at least a $5 tip to keep them in business. But a dozen donuts should be the listed price and the same no matter who serves you. The young gal is the culprit
After 45 years of being a customer we aren't going here again.

Absolutely love this shop! I’ve been coming here since I was a kid (circa 2005) and everything is just as delicious! Always look for the apple fritters and don’t sleep on the bagel sandwiches! (I demolished half before I could take a picture sorry haha)

This place is horrible. The staff is horribly rude and gave attitude. Apparently this place is family owned and they have a horrible customer service. My coworkers like donuts however I will never buy for this place again.

The Golden Donut makes some pretty good doughnuts. In fact, I has their cinnamon and sugar cronut. Yes, cronut, people are still making them. It was a very good cronut and came with those great croissant buttery layers and that softness of a great doughnut.

Although most patrons bought their doughnuts to go, the shop does offer inside and outside seating, which I took advantage of to enjoy my purchase. The service at the counter was very nice and welcoming.

The shop carries the standard doughnuts and specialty ones for kids as well.

Solid solid donut shop in UC. Worth the drive if you can go out of the way to get here. Located in a strip mall in UC, they are easily accessible and fairly priced. They have been family owned for as long as I have been alive so you'll get super friendly service (remember to tip them well!) The apple fritters are amazing as are their cruellers. I have tried a ton of donut shops around town (and around the country) and they have a distinct taste in their sugar base - it shows through in their glazed donuts - try the glazed twist to get the most of this flavor!

The employees give me a free donut if I clean the glass in front of the case for them. But the last time I did this was around 1980, so the policy might have changed since then. I hope I haven't gotten any employees in trouble.

food was good but the service not the greatest. they have a surcharge for using card and when my mom tried getting a new cup of coffee instead of a refill it was 3.50 instead of 75c. there a bunch of scoffing and judgement from the service ladies and it just could’ve been a better experience.

I’ve been coming to Golden Donut since I was a kid. The donuts have always been very nice, but I actually prefer the breakfast sandwiches a little bit more. They also serve a variety of coffee, tea, juices, milks, and energy drinks.

The new owner, Sandy, is a very nice Khmer woman who does a great job running the business. While they were ash only for a long time, they now take cards, which is very convenient.

I recommend stopping by to try out the bear claws, cake donuts, or bagel breakfast sandwiches the next time you’re at University Square on Governor Drive.

Honest Critiques

The donut holes were soft and tasted okay. The male who worked the counter was indifferent. He did not say thank you, or have a nice day. He also was sarcastic when I asked if the donut holes were soft, and if they were made today. I personally will not be visiting again.
