We frequented Gourmet India for there lunch special as it was close to both home and work. Not the best Indian in the area definitely a lot better choices when in search for Indian food in San Diego, just a good location if you're in the downtown area !

Came on a Sunday for Buffett but they don't have it on the weekends. However, the food was still very good. I had the lamb biriyani was good. The samosas were nice and hot. The mango juice is delicious! I kept ordering more. The naan was warm and moist not dry. Also had lamb shank was grilled with onions and peppers. Chicken curry with coconut sauce had a good balance of spices. They have a special for two that is a good price if you are on a date. Comes with a choice of a starter, 3 entree choices and dessert. I would recommend that if you are there on the weekend since the buffet is on week days only from 11:30am to 2:30pm (M-F) for $11 so it's a good deal. Martin is one of the managers a d he is very friendly and a

Just picked up an order of vegetable korma & mozzarella cheese naan. I had also ordered garlic naan which unfortunately was not in my Togo bag :( .. the flavor of the food is definitely tasty and they do not shy away from a lot of sauce in the dish.. however, I was disappointed with the lack of vegetables in my entree. I had 1 piece of cauliflower, a few pieces of potato (literally like 3 pieces) and probably 4 small chunks of carrot. When ordering a vegetarian dish I expect to have more vegetables to fill me up. The naan was filling at least.

They have charged me twice, and it is quite difficult to find someone on any online platform. Including Facebook, Instagram or their own website

How have I not heard of Gourmet India Restaurant & Catering until now?! Tucked away in the Richmond district, this Indian restaurant is hidden behind a bus stop. I dined on a Tuesday night and it was packed! They do have a yelp waitlist so make sure to check it before you come.

Vegan combo for 2 was great! It was a late Saturday night in Gaslamp and I was starving. They were open, smelled delicious, and had really cute decor. We chose the cozy floor seating with cushions and were quickly eating appetizers. This combo had an appetizer, three small main dishes, rice, vegan bread, and a shared dessert. My boyfriend loved the flavors and I was in plant-based heaven! We left very full and were happy to spend the $46 on that big meal.

What would Duff Goldman, Paul Hollywood, Nadiya Hussain say about greasy silverware and beer glasses? So disappointing about this particular gourmet India restaurant. Ambience is ok. Food is super bland. Small portions. People friendly-process-weird set up- product needs major over haul. To the managers and stake holders here is a tip keep in mind What Is "Beer-Clean" Glassware and How Is It Achieved? Beer clean is an industry term describing a glass that is free of any impurities that would give CO2 a place to cling to, ensuring the beer's best look and taste. The Brewer's Association Draught Beer Quality Manual (DBQM) defines a beer clean glass as one that: "Forms a proper foam head, allows lacing during consumption, and never shows patches of bubbles stuck to the side of the glass in the liquid beer." This was not beer clean. Makes sense, right?

We are thali. $22 was priced for a thali but felt totally worth it. Portions, quality was all great. Cozy and small restaurant but nice ambiance. Probably the best Indian food we could find in San Diego.

This restaurant was a stop at a downtown taste festival so I patronized them for dinner recently. There was only one other party seated as it was a slow evening. The dining area was intimate with several tables that could hold around a couple dozen customers. The menu had all the typical dishes you would find at a place serving Indian cuisine. What caught me by surprise was the pricing. Apparently, the other popular Indian spot in the Gaslamp District had similar menu prices. I couldn't help but notice that most of the dishes were $4 to $10 more expensive than in areas outside of downtown. For example, there is an Indian eatery in La Jolla in which only one item, a rack of lamb, is above $20. Here, any protein added to an entree (besides chicken) made the price well over $20. I didn't understand why there was such a difference when the portion size and food quality were not substantially better. The cost of doing business in the Gaslamp cannot be that much more than an area like La Jolla which is not a cheap rent neighborhood. I ordered the chicken saag (puree of fresh spinach cooked with ginger, garlic, and roasted cumin) at a medium spice level and a side of lamb naan. The latter came with a small cup of mango chutney which I loved the fruitiness to counter the lamb taste. The number of chicken pieces in the saag was less than plentiful while there was hardly any spiciness at all in the puree. My server was prompt and friendly. The kitchen did do a good job of getting the food prepared quickly although that should have been the case because they were not busy at all. Overall, this dinner visit was a 2.5 star experience.
