Hodad’s!! It's an iconic burger joint in Ocean Beach, but even if it wasn't, the burgers are fantastic! The onion rings are definitely worth the upcharge. And it's a great value, too. You will probably have to wait in line to be seated, but it's worth it. And you can see some really interesting characters on Newport Avenue. Try going during an off time, if you don't want to wait. The food is freshly prepared. 100% recommend!

I've been going to Hodads since I was a kid. Native Sandiegan, moved to Ohio. Raved about Hodads to my boyfriend (native Ohioan). We moved to Yuma and of course the first thing I want to do is share my childhood cheeseburger experience. He was in awe of the ambience and asked the server for a recommendation. She says the blue cheese specialty burger. I should have just told him to get the classic burger, but he's adventurous! He took two bites and the burger fell apart. Someone offered to make him another one but at that point his experience was ruined and I could tell all he wanted to do is leave. I paid $53 for 2 burgers, one fry and a shake, which most was not consumed. I thought that since they knew my boyfriend wasn't able to eat his food that they would comp it but they didn't. I paid in full without bothering to ask and without tipping (not in my nature) I will say that as my burger did not fall apart and it was good; it was not what I remember as a kid and definitely not worth the price! It hurts me to say this but I will not be going back again 🥺 Cheeseburgers are my love language and that just broke my heart!

The iconic burger joint in OB! Great food and atmosphere, though a little pricey. Yet the fries are bomb and th onion rings are perfect crisp, great portions too. My wife has known them for a long time and I used to hit up when I was skateboarding in town. Always a good grab.
Greeted by a hostess that was nice and helpful who promptly sat us. As we were about to sit, a manager told us to go back to the door and wait. He asked if “we were able to read the sign that says please wait to be seated”. When we informed him that we had, he said “oh” and walked away. Funny thing is they weren’t even that busy, especially for noon on a Saturday. Now we know why. Stick with 5 guys or In-n-out. Similar burger for a fraction of the cost and far better service.

If you are looking for a local burger joint, this is the place! The staff are super friendly and service is pretty quick. I appreciated the different burger size options: mini, single or double. This was my second time here and I will definitely be back each time I’m in San Diego! The atmosphere is very fun with lots of old license plates as decorations.
