Love this family run business! You can tell they take pride in their food. They were super friendly and personable. Their lava sauce is AMAZING! We will definitely return when we come back into town.

NOTE: Their short ribs are also INCREDIBLE. Everyone should get them!!!

This location was far better quality food and service compared to the Mesa College location, (which we used to go to). The food and service was a ten! Good quality of meat, no gristle (like Mesa College), lots of flavor and juicy! Super friendly couple that run the place! Highly recommend!!

Home Style Hawaiian stay one solid spot fo’ ono grindz! Da Katsu stay crispy an’ golden brown, da kine broke da mout good—had dat perfect crunch wit’ da tender chicken inside.

Da Korean fried chicken stay ono kine! Da outside stay crispy, golden brown, crack when you bite ‘um, but inside stay juicy an’ soft—broke da mout good! Da flavor? Sweet, garlicky, an’ got dat little spicy kick fo’ make da taste buds wake up an’ hula. Da sauce bussin’, mix jus’ right, no too much, no too little—get dat local kine balance.

An’ da Kalbi ribs? Bruh, so juicy, da marinade stay bussin’, mix sweet an’ smoky fo’ real island flavor.

Da place got chill vibes, make you feel like you stay kickin’ back wit’ ohana.

An’ da best part? We wen talk story wit’ one of da owners—sista stay super nice, planny aloha. Wen make da whole meal even mo’ bettah. 🤙🍗🔥

Tricia greeted us with a smile and great hospitality. We tried their Kalbi short ribs and they were mouth watering. We also ordered the Teri Beef Fries and Lumpia, everything was delicious. We ordered the passion fruit and mango lemonade and they both are a must have!! We will be back soon 😊

Why is the two choices $28 here but $18 at other homestyle hawaiian? Can you please lower the price so I don't have to drive 30 mins to get cheaper food?

My wife flew home some ono grinds all the way back to south Florida. 15-hour-old leftovers were fire 🔥. We can't find good Hawaiian food in our area of Florida, so I had my wife bring me home a mixed plate. Mahalo Kamaaina.

This review is based solely on the customer service or should I say lack thereof received here from Tricia O T. We unfortunately did not get to try any of the food here.

My guy & I placed an order & sat down to wait for our food. We were followed by a family of 5 who did the same. After about 15 minutes we see the family after us begin to get items. It was easily determined that they didn’t order the items received & it struck us odd they would receive something we ordered before we did & complementary at that. But we put the thought aside as they were with kids just coming from the karate place in the strip mall and figured they were regulars & the owner was being nice to them. FF a few more minutes and more food starts going to their table while were just sitting here like what is going on? After multiple back and forths with the plates ordered and the other guests she ended up giving our entire order to this family. Not a single time did Tricia acknowledge us or the mistake made. We’re watching this whole thing unfold & it was like were sitting there invisible. Instead, she turns around walks back to the kitchen & tells them to redo our order. It is at this point – due to the lack of customer service we ask her to please not recook anything, we’d like to cancel our order. Not because of the mistake itself, people make mistakes but because of the subpar customer service following. The family who got the food was more apologetic and showed more concern for us as customers than Tricia.

Unfortunately for everyone involved Tricia decides to tell us she would not give us our money back and that we had to write a letter to the owner Gil or contact the BBB to get our money back. It was at this point I began filming and I’m so glad I did. Because what went from 2 customers unhappy with the service received and simply asking for a refund turned into the owner of this business losing it, repeatedly body shaming/ fat shaming me. From making comments about how hungry I must be, to her puffing out her cheeks and arms mocking my size. Even as far as her lunging her arms over the counter attempting to what? Grab my phone? Hit me? Tricia O T went off the deep end. This back and forth went on much too long. In front of other customers where she continued to body shame & laugh at us. She even went as far as saying she wasn’t body shaming but that I have insecurities? This woman Tricia – was completely unhinged. Ali the chef finally got Gil on the phone & as you would expect any owner to do – he immediately told her to refund us. Sadly, even after that, Tricia’s psychotic fatphobic antics continued.

I was completely flabbergasted & felt like I was dealing with an elementary school bully. I couldn’t believe in 2024, in Drew Afualo’s world, I was being fat shamed because I was a displeased customer at her restaurant.

There are many home style Hawaiian type food restaurants in this beautiful city of San Diego. I strongly urge you to reconsider your choice if you’ve found yourself reading this review. A person of this low vibration does not deserve your hard-earned money.
