Koon Thai Kitchen-Almost all the dishes I had at this place were really tasty and way too different from one another. They have a very good spice range. I took a 4, and believe me, it was just the spice I needed.Spring roll -The outer layer was thin and very crispy. It was served hot, and the inner flavor was mild and perfectly complimenting the sauce provided.Khao soi -The dish consisted of fried crispy noodles, normal curry noodles, and the curry. It had a coconut based flavor, and it was so good. The quantity was well enough for one person.Spicy fried rice -The rice was loaded with baby corn, capsicum, and tofu. The quantity was so much I had to eat it for 2 to 3 meals. You will get a punch of spice with every bite you eat. The rice was well cooked and perfectly seasoned.Drinks -Thai ice tea, Thai ice coffee:The ice tea was so soothing and had an earthy flavor. I actually liked the tea more than coffee. The coffee was also good, and both were very perfectly chilled and complemented the dishes.Everything was served within time, and they also made sure to ask questions about the food and if we require anything. They also replaced one dish free of charge, as we did not like the consistency of the curry.

There is no other Thai restaurant I like more right now than Koon Thai Kitchen.LOCATION / PARKINGKoon Thai Kitchen is nestled in Kearny Mesa on Convoy St between the 805 and 163 - just south of Balboa. It is located in a busy plaza with shared parking. I would not recommend driving a large SUV here - or anywhere on Convoy.AMBIANCE / INTERIOROne section of the restaurant has festive carnivalesque paintings on the wall, while another section is plain black lined with mini tiles. They have several private booths and tables in the restaurant but no outdoor dining. I’ve eaten here mostly during dinner time and the sound can be louder than average, which I don’t mind.FOODIf I’m visiting a Thai restaurant for the first time, I’ll usually order Panang Curry - I base their food off this one dish. If it’s creamy and the flavors are cooked to my liking, I know I’ll most likely enjoy the other dishes they offer. And I was right! I loved most of the dishes we had here:* Beef Panang Curry - We requested medium spice. It was perfect, creamy, and irresistibly delicious!* Pad See Ew - This is the best pad see ew I’ve had in So Cal. A close second is President Thai. I loved that it had some charring (wok hei) from the wok. The noodles were bouncy and chewy, and it had the right amount of sauce. So so good!* Crab Fried Rice - Always a staple when I order. Good!• Pad / Yum Woon-Sen - It’s already in the name: Yum! Crystal noodles that are bouncy and sautéed with lots of crunchy veggies. So perfect!* Calamari - Although I wasn’t a fan of the breading, I did enjoy it with the sweet dipping sauce.* Fried Pot Stickers - Nothing that stood out. Not bad.* Pad Thai - Loved how saucy this was. The chewy noodles soaked it all up and it was oh so delicious! We really enjoyed the food here because you can customize the spice level. The portions are generous too. And the food came out piping hot!CUSTOMER SERVICEThe staff are all so wonderful here. Very kind and attentive. They checked in on us to make sure the food was to our liking.Overall, I loved the food at Koon Thai Restaurant. I only wish we had more people in our party so we can try more dishes. I’ll definitely be back again! And I’ll happily recommend them to anyone open to try delicious Thai food!

The food came out in a timely manner. It was good but needed more seasonings. The portion size is kinda small but the prices are more than what I would like to pay. For example, the seafood pad thai during lunch special came with only 1 shrimp! The satay chicken texture tasted too spongy.2 lunch special entrees, 1 lunch special appetizer, 1 regular entree and 1 iced coffee came out to be $53 before tips. And only had a small portion of noodles leftover to take home.

Good Thai food in a cozy setting. Menu is extensive, food is good and comes out in a timely manner, and seating is comfortable. We got the Tom Yum pot and Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) to share and has leftovers to spare. They forewarn about spice intensity (10 levels), so we got level 4 for the soup (a bit spicy with the flakes!) and level 5 for the noodles (good amount of spice). Will have to come back and try their lunch specials and more dishes!

Love this place. Authentic Thai food parking is a nightmare but that's any convoy restaurant in the area. Good customer service and food is awesome! This is my go to Thai restaurant. Can't wait to come back!

Stopped here with my 3 1/2 year old son for the first time today 6/6/2022 to get some Thai food. They were extremely busy for a Monday night! I did not expect that. The ambiance is lovely. Beautiful decor and painting on the wall. I wish I got a picture. Next time! We were sat quickly despite the amount of people at the restaurant. Seems as though they get larger parties! We ordered spring rolls to start with. They tasted amazing with the sweet plum sauce. For our main course, we ordered pad see ew with chicken. It was amazing. The flavors were bursting and the chicken was extremely tender. The broccoli was obviously super fresh and cooked to perfection. I would definitely come back here if given the opportunity to try more dishes!

First time ordering from here. Never write reviews, BUT had too here. Tried a new dish Rad Na. It's was a gelatinous goo. Awful. Photo of what we got. Penang Curry was great. Just don't order the Rad Na. Can't believe it was served this gross

Lunch specials. And offers Happy Hour specials. And even have a loyalty reward program! And super glad our server warned us on the spiciness levels… mild was spicy for me! ?‍? but super yummy and the sweet peanut dressing with the side salad was perfect to cool my tongue! ?? definite recommend. Will come back for HH

I went to this restaurant today with my boyfriend. A young girl for service really mean. Since we sat down we waited around 15mins then she came ask order, on that time not busy there. That girl even she wear the mask you can feel from her face and eye , she is mean. That feeling like we owed her money. When we done and ask the box she not help to wrap. My boyfriend leave the tip there and when he saw that girl bad service then took half back. But honestly the food is not bad . Recommend owner change that girl. The customer was enjoying food there, not for upset!

Was looking for a new Thai spot and found this on yelp. I got seated and got some water to start off with while we looked at the menu. I took a sip of my water and discovered that I drank some glass chips. I ended up spitting some out and told the waiter. He then took it away and brought me a plastic cup with water. He did not apologize at all nothing!! I ordered the pork belly that was ok and the pad Thai and that was good. Also for appetizers we got cream cheese wontons which were good. My gf order the yellow curry with pad Thai with noodles and it came out with rice. Her rice that she got was so soggy and mushy. Did not taste good at all. Her yellow curry was good and so was her pad Thai. The service was bad. Was asking for Togo boxes and the lady just took off before I can finish what I saying. Overall a bad experience and not worth the price or going back.

First came here in July 2018. Didn't have Yelp at the time, but I've been back since. The food is delicious, fresh, and always arrives quickly. The people working here are incredibly friendly. Typical decor of a Thai restaurant inside. Highly recommend the Pad Thai if you're not familiar with Thai cuisine and/or not a fan of spicy food.

Got take out for lunch here today and it was delicious! The only complaint I have is the fresh rolls, it was good but there was something missing. My friend was really happy with her items and the noodles were delicious. Will come back again for take out when I'm in the area!
