To any first-timers and newcomers checking out the spot, It's an OLD restaurant, so I would let that slide personally. I remember going here with my parents as a kid since the mid or so 2000s. Recipe and portions haven't changed much nor the decour. Food-wise hits are different, especially the Bento Boxes. Niban was the first place to introduce me to Chicken Katsu.

The food left a gasoline taste in my mouth. Left fish on the plate for the first time in my life.

Staff was friendly but something was off.

Got tuna nigiri, Paradise Roll, and Tuna Avocado roll. Not sure if it was the rice or fish on all of them.

I did like their crab mix on the inside of the Paradise roll. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The staff was really friendly, but the food was way overpriced for the quality. The fish was a very odd texture and the sushi lacked flavor overall. The wasabi also left a really weird after taste in your mouth.

Every time I come in here for the past month there is one guy preparing food, cooking and doing the register. There is 5 people in line and you have to wait 25 minutes. I can drive across town and get my food faster than waiting in line here. Who is training these guys?! Not coming back here👎🏼

Cozy with nice staff. Always a good choice, and there really aren't many other cafes in this mall so parking is easy.

Super nice staff, but pretty average food. Not sure I’d come back.

I have been going to eat there for more than 25 years and it is still one of my favorite restaurants. It is not very expensive and the food is delicious.

Basic neighborhood Japanese restaurants serving basic dishes at very affordable prices. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Part of a 3-restaurant group that has served San Diego for decades.

The lunch and dinner specials are excellent deals. On my most recent visit, the teriyaki chicken was freshly grilled, with just the right amount of char with crispiness on the outside, tender juicy inside, and a sauce that is neither too sweet nor too thick as one would expect from other bargain Japanese restaurants.
