A lot of social media was hyping this place up, and honestly it was a little underwhelming. Now while the fish tacos were good. I wouldn’t say they are amazing. However for the price ($7-$8) was justified. It was a good sized taco. For me. A solid 4 stars because the service was excellent. Helped you through the choices and made sure you got everything you ordered.

Found this place during a random search for lunch enroute to our destination. Good line of people but moved fast. Ordered the shrimp and fish stew. Shrimp was fresh but overpowering seasoning masked the flavor. It did not come with anything sides. Probably makes for a starter but not as a meal on its own. Fish stew was good with deep flavors but not heavy. Most other customers had fish and chips which seemed to be a popular item. Overall, fresh seafood, light on quantity but nothing remarkable stood out.

Parking: Small number of spots on the lot. Available street parking.

Fish tacos are tasty and the fish is fresh. Not my favorite in SD but good food, good beer selection — can’t go wrong!

Our church sent 13 people on a mission trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. This was one of the restaurants where we ate. They were very wonderful and would definitely go again!

Visitor from VA, and wanted to treat myself to some nice seafood while in California.
I got the sea bass, one of my favorites. Unfortunately, it tasted overcooked and like it had been microwaved. Not flaky and succulent, but chewy and kinda rubbery. And not exactly cheap. It came out pretty fast, but I'd rather wait for something good.
Pretty disappointed in the fish, but the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. The onion rings saved this from being a one star experience.

I write this with great sadness. I have been coming here for well over two years, nearly twice a month minimum for their thursday oyster deal. Since November I have had somebody get food poisoning from their oysters each time. Currently myself and my buddy are in the ER with norovirus fro mthe oysters. The other two people that ate here with us Thrusday 01/23/25 that didnt eat oysters are fine. I know of minimum 5 seperate people that have gotten reoccuring food poisoning from PB Fish Shop since August and last winter I had a few friends get sick as well. I hate to be a karen, but as i am sitting in the ER vomiting my guts out every 5 minutes I can't help but think "what if there are other sick people right now from this place that are much older than me". Get it together, Ironside doesn't have this issue and they still do discount oysters. We are all reporting Fish Shop to the FHD to get this resolved, DO NOT EAT THE OYSTERS HERE YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET A FOODBORNE ILLNESS.

Solid spot! The fish and shrimp are always tasty. $1.25 Thursday oysters are fabulous and it’s fun to try different types. Clam chowder in a bread bowl really hit the spot.

We went for Tuesday shrimp boil too, wouldn’t go back for that, unfortunately not quite what I was expecting for a Cajun shrimp boil, not nearly enough sauce that you’d normally get in the bag style and the peels were really hard to get off so over boiled. We also got the last serving of the night so possibly had been sitting for a bit.

Tried this place for the first time today, Monday, February 17, 2025, around 2 PM—and unfortunately, my experience left more of a bad taste than the food. The waitress at the counter was astonishingly rude and condescending. As a first-time visitor, I asked a few questions about the menu, and her response? “Can you read?”

Well, yes. In fact, I have a degree in English Literature and an MFA in Writing. Not only can I read, but I’ve written and published work as well. But apparently, good customer service wasn’t on the menu that day. The waitress (blonde hair, ponytail, and a clear disdain for her job) seemed put off by even the most basic inquiries. My boyfriend, who was with me, was equally shocked by her attitude.

As for the food? It was decent—think hot dog stand fare at upscale restaurant prices. But if you’re charging gourmet rates, maybe invest in staff who at least pretend to enjoy their job. While I won’t speculate on motives, I did notice that I, an African American customer, was treated with hostility while my Caucasian boyfriend was left appalled by the interaction.

I rarely leave negative Yelp reviews, but this experience was too unpleasant to ignore. I walked in hoping for a good meal and left with a reminder that common courtesy isn’t always a given. Management, if you’re reading this (assuming you can), I suggest some serious customer service training.

My yellowtail taco was made with stale tasting fish that was not properly trimmed. No creamy sauce, had to ask for mayonnaise. Sashimi was good, clam chowder was just weird with sausage in it.

Parking: Paid too much for mediocre seafood.

Fish tacos were delicious, and the clam chowder was just OK. Guy at the register made great food suggestions. The dining area was clean. Would go back for the tacos.

Historically, I have gone to PB fish shop every time I visited San Diego over the past seven years. I have always gotten great food there, even though the prices are a tad on the high side. My most recent visit a week ago was very disheartening. I ordered the fresh halibut, fried. It was way overcooked (dark brown) and extremely dry. Onion rings were good as always. Not worth the almost $30 that I paid. Rethinking if I will go back on my next visit.

Fish tacos were also incredibly weak compared to most other places around town, however really good soup and fish chowder.

Fish tacos were good but a little pricey for the amount you get.

I've heard a few good things about this place. My boyfriend and I finally had the chance to stop by for lunch.
My boyfriend ordered the red snapped sandwhich and I ordered the slipper lobster, Mahi Mahi and red snapper tacos. Overall, I enjoyed my food but I think they did too much with the spices and toppings - less is more. On a scale of 1-5 I'd probably give a 3, the food wasn't bad but I would not amazing enough to interest me go back.

Ambience was very cute though, they have a large patio Picnic style seating, as well as an outdoor bar with high top seating and if you see it's inside period Your order at the front and they bring your food out to you, which is my preferred dining style since you don't have to wait forever to for someone to take your order and pay your bill.

They have a cute outdoor set up including a bar, so I'd probably go just to grab drinks on a sunny day vs back for food
