Patisserie Melanie keeps surprising me with incredible pastries. Their kouignette is absolutely sublime. I usually get my order to go, but everything I have tried has been top quality. In my opinion, it is one of the best pastry spots in San Diego. Prices are on the higher side but totally worth it.

A beautiful boutique-esq cafe with a reasonably priced Espresso menu full of variety, delightful decadent pastries, and knowledgable owner who was an absolute treat to get recommendations from!

I’d always passed by Patisserie Melanie during its off hours and was always curious by the cute and quaint abode.

I was fortunate enough to pop by before work today and hope to visit MORE in the future (Dinner perhaps..?)

Great first experience at this establishment. Croissants were flaky and buttery. My cappuccino was well made and very good. No complaints.

They hate dogs here. Like, unnecessarily rude about it

Very cute little bakery. I had the hot chocolate and it was great. Very rich dark chocolate and not too sweet. I also tried the quiche which was very nice and a couple pastries which were also very nice.

We have been a bunch of times and it has been delicious every time. The pistachio croissant is a staple for us. The lattes, teas, matcha and iced coffee have all been great. It’s a nice place to sit and talk, great light and comfortable atmosphere.

I’ve been at Pâtisserie Mélanie a couple of times over the last two years, living in the neighborhood. I’m moving out of SD so I thought I would share my final sentiment.

I’m French so I know what to expect for that kind of pastries. From my perspective, it’s similar to an average village bakery in France. They seem to try being closer to a luxury experience, by the atmosphere and dining menu, so it feels quite disappointing.

The croissants are fresh, flaky and buttery enough for the US. But they look small, almost like mini versions. Also, they don’t look perfected, modern. Not even rustic. They unfortunately look very amateur, like home made. They taste definitely better than they look, which is what matters.

Rest of the pastries were good, I loved them. The cannelés are well mastered, and I loved the twist of using what I think is Grand Marnier or Cointreau, instead of dark rhum? The financiers looked great and were tasty.

But the range of pastries overall is pretty limited. There’s viennoiseries, sweet and savory, mainly. I would expect more from a French style bakery: flans parisiens, fraisiers, crêpes, choux, éclairs, chausson aux pommes, pains suisses, fruit tartelettes, or even illusion fruits! Please!

The atmosphere is indeed to be improved, it feels quite empty and sad. A central island with flowers for instance would help fill the empty middle of the room when we enter.

Service has always been perfect, congrats.

Overall, not great not terrible, and ton of things that can improve this place and make it a successful bakery in the neighborhood. Good luck!

Pastry is alright and there were not a lot of options like I would expect from their photos on the window. We ordered pistachios croissants and jams baguette sandwich, croissant was good but the sandwich was boring not hot enough and the bread was stale not crispy and not enough fillings.
Service is super slow even though my sister and I were the only two in the shop.

Really appreciate this place. The pastries are excellent. It’s now a weekend ritual for the whole family. The people that work here are lovely as well and make you feel like part of their community.

I genuinely enjoyed my first experience here. I got an almond and raspberry croissant that was absolute perfection. I got an iced americano that was pretty good but the shots seem slightly over extracted or the coffee is a little darker than I'm used to. This didn't take away from how lovely the experience was, however. I still enjoyed the drink and pastry. Im a long time home baker and a professional barista so I can't lie that I'm picky.

The service was lovely! Other people mentioned service can be rough here but I didn't have that experience. I also work in customer service so I know how people can take exhaustion as rudeness. I think it's a lovely place to visit! This place met expectations and I would return.

This place has amazing food. I live down the street and always come by for breakfast; best quiche and croque in San Diego + wonderfully fresh pastries. Don’t know what I would do without this spot!

I’ve been going to Patisserie Melanie for months now. Their pastries are consistently good and the staff is so friendly. The aesthetic is clean, simple, and modern. Compared to Izola, I think this place wins. Izola has huge pastries, and their stuff is good too. But the flavor of these pastries are unbeatable. I don’t know what kind of butter they use, but it’s delicious.
