Very disappointed. I am a recent implant to the left coast and this is the third BBQ establishment I’ve been to and sorry to say by far the worst food. The tri-tip sandwich was what I was most excited for. The thin cut is not what I was used to and it had a taste that reminded me of something I had sitting in the fridge five or six days and reheated just before it became inedible. The onion rings looked amazing, but were mostly breading and 100% fall short. The two best things I ate were the fries covered in pulled pork and the cornbread, Which was served cold, had decent flavor, but was kind of doughy and made with a finely ground corn instead of the course that I prefer. I saw a video review that made this place look and sound amazing which is why I was so disappointed when I actually tried the food. I’ve eaten barbecue all over the United States and there is a place in North San Diego County that does it right! It’s a ā€œprimoā€ Mexican grocery store that serves some amazing barbecue and the best tri-tip I’ve ever had! As for Philā€˜s, I don’t even consider them adequate, as I left uneaten portions of the food on the table and did not take them with me. This is something I never do.

First time at this Phil's. Food was awesome! Huge tri-tip sandwich, amazing onion rings! Add on a $5 beer and your set for the whole day! Place is crazy busy but we only had to wait a few minutes to get a table. Highly recommend!

Great food and hospitality from the staff! Relatively quiet dining during the day but spirited and lively when the families pour in with the kids between 5-6pm on weekends. All in all, this place rocks. Portions are big, food great, staff wonderful! ?

Chicken and pork became like eating leather at Phil’s - DRY! I can stay home and do that. This is not my 1-time experience as of late. It’s my experience(s) in ā€˜22, ā€˜23, ā€˜24. I’m proud of myself though for dwindling down my visits here to a couple a year.
Prices: I don’t understand how the food has gone down the prices have skyrocketed. Things that were $13 a couple years ago are now $19-20. The workers look tired and disconnected, not content. The vendor supplying Phils the meats can’t be a step up with the excess prices/revenue Phil’s is charging, unless they’re bleeding customers (like me).
I’m sorry, I can’t, when a place bilks its customers, employees, de-emphasizes using quality vendors.
The goods news is there are plenty of BBQ places delivering great food and ambiance, and they’re firing on all 8 cylinders. Phil’s decline is just part of the marketing/business life cycle.

Delicious BBQ and large portions. Our favorite is the three beef rib dinner with fries and coleslaw. Fries are alway crisp. The meal is big enough for two to share.

Worst sandwich I have ever had! Pulled pork was awful I’m sure they scraped the shreds of leftovers and put on my days old bun.
Bun was extremely hard couldn’t cut with my knife. Onion rings almost $10.00? Seriously!
I live close by but never going back and will be happy to tell others about my experience

Parking: Parking sucks. Never enough open spaces.

Love this place! I would recommend ordering the baby back ribs! They are really good and the fries are also really good with the ribs. The employees are so nice there and the food comes out very quick. I would definitely recommend going there. Have a bar area with TVs and some in the main area. Highly recommend going here.
