The BBQ you shouldn't miss if you visit San Diego. The server was so helpful as it was our first time, the choice is huge and we ended up having a combo meal of ribs and wings. The sauces are rich, sticky and so flavorful, the meat was melt in the mouth and practically fell of the bone. We selected one large side and two small and that plenty to share between us. This restaurant was highly recommended and we now understand why, the smell from outside had us salivating and the overall experience was fantastic. Overall Phils BBQ is worthy of much of the praise. This is a unique San Diego spin on meat for the masses and it should definitely please most people. Our mission is to dine at each top San Diego BBQ joint several times and come up with a ranking. We have already been to Phil’s many times so we are definitely going to say this should be in the top 5 but will not be number one. Everytime I am in San Diego for business I always stop into Phil's and grab some onion rings and a broham. Their ranch is the best I've tasted. The atomspere is dynamic and the food. Well that's why I keep coming back.

Came on vacation and everyone say I had to come here so I did but sadly I found a little surprise

I remember enjoying Phil's about 10 years ago but maybe my palette has changed. Found the sauce to be overbearing this visit. Tri tip was overcooked and rubbery which was disappointing and difficult to finish. Beef bone was tender and good but the sauce was actually a detractor

I was drawn there because of the 5☆ reviews and who dosen't like a good barbecue, but the food was mediocre. The sauce was average, coleslaw meh, and the beans not bad. Now the onion rings is why I went, but I was disappointed to much batter not crispy like a good onion ring should be. The fries, oh yeah. The service was amazing and the price for portion was ok, still a bit pricey.Beware the birthday song
Awesome food. I recommend going there early to avoid the line.
