Haven’t had a dish like this since I was young. The pickled herring was some of the best I’ve ever had. Pickled cabbage with cranberry is something I’d take a bath in. Delicious 20/20

Authentic Danish food in San Diego! Run by a charming Danish couple. A lot of their food is imported from Denmark. Fresh, unique, and personal dining experience! Great food. We loved the open face sandwiches on house-baked rye bread.

This little family run place in Hillcrest is fantastic. Everything is cooked from scratch, and delicious. We had meatballs and chicken and asparagus filled puff pastry; both I would highly recommend. The service was great, the owner chatted to us about Denmark and some food related customs. Great lunch spot!

While the decoration isn't the highly admired Danish design, the owners of Taste of Denmark make up for it with the amazing food and friendly service.
Tina brought us a plate of appetizers, which included 4 items: in-house made rye bread,
pickled cabbage, apples and cranberries,
strawberries,
and roumelade.
We ordered the mushroom soup which was delicious and flavorful, with a creaminess from the Danish cheese.
Our entrée was the open face rye sandwiches, which included
Meatball on potato,
Salmon lox and dill,
Pickled herring and radish.
We talked about travels to Copenhagen and she was lovely to take the time to chat, as it seemed like she was the only person working the front of the house.
We booked our reservation thru OpenTable.
They've been here for 6 years. We're happy to support local businesses and see they do well with specialized dishes.
This restaurant is very un-hyped but very very good, and not expensive. It was about $15 per person before tip for brunch.

Our favorite meal from our recent trip to San Diego was here! The food was amazing and tasted so fresh. The staff were very attentive and nice.
Kid-friendliness: Not much of a kids menu but staff was so nice and bought out crayons and a coloring page for the kids.

Amazing atmosphere, wonderful people and the food was incredible. I'm so grateful to have found this place I just wish I lived closer. But, I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Thank you so much!
Kid-friendliness: My wife and I came in with our 3 month old daughter and had no issues at all. My little girl was looking all around when she woke up and was so intrigued with everything.

My friend from Germany and I went here this afternoon. I lived in Southern Sweden and spent a lot of time in Denmark when I was younger. I was in Scandinavia a year ago, so it was nice to be transported back to Copenhagen. This is truly authentic Danish food! It was fantastic! I had a sausage/hotdog, my friend had pickled herring and we shared rødgrød med flød. If you have never had this—try it, it’s the most Danish of Danish desserts. The portion sizes are European and just enough. The prices are budget-friendly too. This is my new favorite restaurant in San Diego. I will be a regular!

This food was hands down delicious. We came here after the pride parade because all the other bars were too crowded and had long wait list, and boy I am glad I stumbled I to this place. Everything was delicious, fresh, well seasoned and the owners are amazing. And honestly the quality and taste of the food is a bargain for what they charge. Great place, I'd totally go back.

Great little place for traditional danish food. We have been coming here for about a year for danish goods and finally had a try at the actual restaurant food. Great service, owner is super friendly and chit chats with us.

I studied abroad in Denmark and was so excited to try this place. The food and service were amazing! The danish hot dog tasted exactly like the ones I got in Copenhagen. Will definitely be going back!! Tak!

What a great local spot! The open faced sandwiches are delicious. We got the pickled herring, danish meatballs, and fried fish, which are served on a house-made rye bread. The hot dogs are also incredible, with the perfect snappy casing.
We loved chatting with the owners, who are lovely and made us feel like we were dining in their home. We’ll definitely be going back!
