Food and wine were just ok. Service was absolutely crap and it wasn't even busy.
Recommended dishes: Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese
Friendly staff. High quality ingredients. You get to watch them make your pizza in their open pizza kitchen—which is pretty cool. Delicious pizza; fresh dough and flavorful combinations. Would recommend

Best Italian food in San Diego
The pasta and pizza here are absolutely the best! They’ve really set the bar high for both. I don’t live in San Diego, but whenever I’m there, I always bring my family. The service is fantastic, and they truly care about their customers. I highly recommend it!

Amazing ambience and food. Very polite and friendly staff. We tried Pasta/Pizza/Fountain Soda/Soup of the day and Pinsa Romana (Patriottica). Must admit that Pinsa Romana was the highlight of the day. Such great play of flavors made the entire experience worth every penny spent here. This is a must visit place for anyone visiting San Diego.

Great place!!! If you come to San Diego and want casual Italian this place is awesome. Pizza crust was some of the best I have ever had. If you like spicy make sure you get one of the dishes with their homemade Calabrian chili oil.

Absolutely ridiculous. First of all the reservation times that were set for our group weren’t initially correct on behalf of the restaurant, (they messed up the reservation time) second of all it was made known to our group that if there were more than ten people attending, that there would be a $45 minimum on behalf of each person in the party. We were also told that our present party members would be kicked out unless the rest of the party showed up in two minutes, after waiting for a total of about ten minutes. Also absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. Once we arrived to the restaurant, it was then brought to our attention that instead of there being $45 feet for a party over ten, they then told our party that there would be a fee of $45 for a group of ten or more when that wasn’t what was initially communicated over the phone, two days prior to our reservation. Ultimately we just decided to leave, and not place any kind of order, and will not be back.

What I thought would be an amazing experience for my birthday turned out to be a nightmare. Disappointing service experience. A last minute policy included $45 mandatory for each person in our party to eat after clarifying on the phone multiple times and cutting members of our party to meet the standards. This unacceptable when that was not in fact what I was told when I made the reservation.

Hands down, the best pizza in San Diego. The Alla Norma with house crushed tomato, eggplant, smoked mozzarella, burrata cheese, EVOO, basil is perfection. The crust is in a class by itself - imported flour from Italy, fermented to perfection and perfectly charred. The Caponata Siciliana appetizer is sautéed eggplant, olives, capers and pine nuts served w/ perfectly grilled bread. How many times have you ordered bruschetta that comes with reheated stale bread slices? Not here. The attention to detail is consistent in every dish. The eggplant parm is tender and flavorful and the house made sauce is fresh and well-balanced. You won’t find overly acidic, pasty tomato sauce here. If you long for mama’s tomato sauce, you just found it.
The next time you want authentic Italian food but you can’t afford a trip to Rome, go to Tavola Nostra. It will become your newest culinary obsession.
