Pleasant experience nonethelessFood:The baos are commonly recommended. Rather, we went with a plate - crispy soft shell crab with lemongrass satay sauce, grilled eggplant ,and steamed rice. Everything came out freshly made and piping hot.Did I order the wrong protein? I wish the crab was actually crispy instead of being soggy from all the oil absorbed :(The sides were basic, from the rice they used to the prep of the eggplant (sliced and grilled, lacking seasoning). The sauce saved the meal though lol.We also tried the garlic chicken wings, also coming out fresh and hot. These were comparable to Mandarin restaurants, so not bummed about them. Maybe name change to Fancy Chicken..Service:Very nice and friendly owner. He had to run every position since they're so short staffed.Atmosphere:Large space to eat in but maybe only one table was occupied by customers. More take out orders on a Saturday afternoon. Music played softly so groups can have conversation.

Awwww mannnn....I JUST found this place about a month ago, and today... just learned that Sunday, 23 April 2023; The Fancy Fish will be closing. I'm heartbroken for many reasons. Mainly, because the owner and staff are amazing and super sweet, and also because the Hong Kong Style Whitefish is SO DAMN GOOD... I legit have dreams about it. I feel like someone just slapped my mama. Such crushing news!If you're able to get in here to support this local business that will unfortunately be closing their doors THIS Sunday, I highly suggest you do so while you can!And try the HongKong Style Whitefish plate (I always get rice and grilled zucchini with mine- BOMB). Yes, I've only been here twice- but I won't admit to how many times I've DoorDashed in the last month. (Spoiler: it's been a few times.)Thank you FANCY FISH for providing such delicious eats and service to your customers!!

This mom and pop shop that serves great seafood is one of the best in Mira Mesa area. We had the soft shell crab platter and seafood platter and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and the place is spacious. We will definitely go back and recommend it to our friends and family.

I want to try this place again and try more food! Shrimp chips!! So good So the fancy fish plates. I think that's better than the fried food. The Hong Kong style and the garlic one is very tasty. The clam chowder is also really good The price/value is also very good

First time back since the pandemic. Prices have obviously increased. Fish and Chips went from $7.99 to $10.99. We opted for Fish, Shrimp and Chips with Coleslaw. We were so hungry that we didn't take pictures till halfway through. It seemed there was a new Asian owner who was extremely friendly. The menu had expanded with an Asian bent. Next time we will be more adventurous

In short; a hidden gem. Soft shell crab: 5/5 crispy and yummy. The texture and flavors of the Soft shell crab was perfect! Fish and chips: 5/5 really light and crunchy. The tartar sauce with it was a great compliment. Seafood sampler; 5/5 the batter on the shrimp was so flaky and crunchy. Reminded me of a type of egg roll wrapper! Yummy.The service was super sweet and kind. A very simple menu, but they do it just right.

Food: - Fish & Chips 5/5: I have tried the fish and chips multiple times. Great price, crunchy huge deep fried fish fillet, and a giant pile of crisp hot fries. I would get again (and I have!)- Grilled fish 1/5: I once tried the grilled white fish with garlic butter sauce to try and be healthier. The fish tasted burnt. It wasn't! But I think the grill just had so much burn build-up, the flavor got absorbed by the fish. I took this as a sign from the universe that I should stick with the fish & chipsInterior: I have only been here during the pandemic so have not experienced inside dining. Wait time: After the 3rd time I ordered fish & chips from here, I realized that they make everything fresh to order. So now I place my order, do a quick shopping trip at HMart, and then come back. Usually the order is done by 15-20min

Fish and Asian-inspired cuisine. I ordered the fried tilapia and my daughter had a steamed bun. Both were prepared well. I enjoyed the food but it was very basic fish and chips. The bun was very good, according to my daughter.
This place is truly a hidden gem. It doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside is nice and spacious. The staff is super nice and helpful. I've never had a bad experience there. The food is well-portioned, affordable, and super delicious. It might take a minute because everything is made fresh. Honestly don't know why this place isn't more crowded.

This time I decided to try something new as I did not want anything fried so I ordered the Hong Kong style fish with white rice and zucchini as a side, per the cashier's recommendation. I ended up loving the flavor and it reminded me of something nostalgic (but unfortunately cannot pinpoint to what it is). The portion is also HUGE for the price that I paid. I believe it was around $13 without tip and the fish was big. Also super tender which I loved. Not to mention the service was great!! The cashier was very welcoming from the beginning to end. Always greatly appreciate it when anywhere has friendly service! :) Definitely give them a try. I'd like to come back next time and order something different - I'm sure everything here is amazing!

Food is delicious here! Portions are very generous too. My favorite fish is the Hong Kong Style Steamed Fish. It's very flavorful and reminds me of the steamed fish you could get at a Cantonese restaurant. The chicken wings are also quite tasty. The staff is also very nice!
