Waitress Coco W. was really really rude about us leaving no tip just because our food came 40 mins later when other people on the table were done eating already and the food wasn’t good at all. After asking us why we’re leaving no tip, she followed us outside the restaurant and proceeded to press us that if we leave no tip she has to pay the restaurant out her own pocket. Unacceptable and super unprofessional, we felt disrespected and threatened!

Great service! Jas and Deanna were so nice and friendly. Gotta try the Brussel sprouts.
Was on the hunt for a happy hour and had a craving for sushi while in Ocean Beach so naturally found ourselves at The Joint. The happy hour menu offered a variety of options and the service wasn’t quick but we weren’t in a hurry. Plenty of seating as they weren’t that busy.

Food was really good. The portions were great, quality ingredients, and quick service. I got a few hand rolls and they were all amazing. The seaweed and cucumber salad was extremely light and refreshing. I was so full after but didn’t feel too stuffy or bloated. Highly recommend. Happy I went back to give another chance, the owner is also a good person and wants all his guests to really enjoy their meals and service. Thank you.

Went in for the first time tonight and it was great! The menu is enormous! Our server gave great recommendations, and everything we ordered was delicious.
The crispy pork belly, dates and goat, and Psycho roll were all perfectly cooked and tasty, but the star was the Nuttin but Luv roll! So many different flavors that were amazing together. Definitely recommend!

Few places have eel, and their Dr. Eel good roll is the best I've ever found across the western states.
Next time I drive to Southern California from 800 Miles Away I Will Find This Place Again.

Restaurantji Recommends
I always have trouble trying to review a place like the joint, I'm happy it's in my neighborhood, it's good for a snack especially during their happy hour, but I have trouble giving it five stars.
There's just something kind of lackluster about it. It's a nice sushi restaurant and they're happy hour prices cannot be beat, but you certainly could not say that this place is authentic. That being said what is an authentic sushi restaurant in Southern California it doesn't really mean anything .
This bar wants to be a tapas bar and it feels like they haven't figured out that you can have very small portions for less money the portions on the menu are decent but the price is too much for shared plate tapas.
The happy hour is an incredible deal it's also every day of the week currently so I can't recommend it enough I think it's actually from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. so it's pretty easy to get a well-priced plate. There's also a lot of different selection on the happy hour menu and this is one of the few places in our neighborhood that serve soup of any kind (miso).
I personally really like their hand rolls I usually end up getting two cut rolls a spicy tuna and a vegetarian roll The vegetarian roll is just very good and is an undersong menu item, I think it does a good job of filling out a sushi order without becoming over stuffed.
Really nice place to come to with your friends for a short meal but I think that if you're coming for a more substantial meal it can get expensive very quickly some of their roles are $20+ if you are not getting happy hour pricing.
The wait staff, and the bar staff are incredible they're always very friendly and they have good suggestions about other things going on in the neighborhood if you're someone that's visiting they can really help guide you to some other places that you may enjoy.
It should also be noted that this place decided to put a chopped cheese on their menu. This is an East Coast staple of hamburger meat chopped, American cheese with onions served on a roll it's very delicious but it is a very particular thing. It is not a Philadelphia cheesesteak it is a chopped cheese it can help make a sushi lunch into something a little bit more substantial..

The sushi restaurant we frequently go to is closed on Mondays, so we decided to try The Joint. There was plenty of free parking. They had outside tables with heaters. There were a handful of customers that night. We sat inside and ordered spicy edamame, a cup of miso, salmon nigiri, the Lemon Basil Salmon role, the MaryJane roll, and hot sake. The edamame lacked spice, and the soup and sake were average. I'd have to say the same for the sushi. The lemon basil salmon role was good, but there wasn't anything that stood out. Our waitress said their basil oil is made in- house, but it was overpowered by the citrus. I couldn't taste much of the salmon. The rice in the Mary Jane role was soggy and clearly visible in its presentation, as the roles sat on top of chili sauce. The roles were surprisingly small. It was tastier than the lemon basil salmon, but nothing too original. Same for the salmon nigiri.
I've eaten a lot of sushi at many different restaurants. The roles are either okay or very flavorful with a unique taste. Sushi at The Joint is okay. I gave it 3 stars and probably won't go back.
