The make their own gluten free rosemary and cinnamon bread and it’s INCREDIBLE!! I had one bite of the gluten free French toast and bought a loaf to bring home. If you’re gluten free this really is one of the best brunches you’ll have.

I have been going to BJ's for decades. I ordered a simple large pepperoni pizza and was looking for the taste and quality I have known. The pizza crust was different, almost like a cardboard bottom with a little of the normal crust on top under the cheese. It was dry and maybe undercooked. It was not the buttery fluffy with crispy edges like it has been forever. My wife got the wedge salad with steak and it was awful. The steak was cold like it was pulled from the refrigerator and not cooked fresh. It was bland and tough and even tasted like the refrigerator. We told the server about how bad the steak in the salad was and he didn't care or even acknowledge what we were saying. They must have changed their recipes for some reason, but we still paid a lot of money for both. We'll not be going back again.

Reliably crowd pleasing food and kind, attentive service. My younger child always gets her extra ranch and chicken tenders!

Best all around breakfast spot in SD for me. I love the food here. The employees are super friendly and the building is very unique and creates an ambiance not found anywhere else. The building is an older house and it really is a cool experience eating here. I always walk to this location, so I don't know much about the parking situation but can imagine it is hit or miss as this spot is right in the heart of east village. It is worth the effort!

The service here is super slow, even one days when the place is empty. The music was so loud I could barely talk to the other people at my table

Popped in for a quick breakfast: cold brew, bacon, rosemary potatoes. Way exceeded expectations, especially the potatoes. Can’t wait to come back.

The Mission in East Village is one of San Diego’s best spots for brunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and stylish, with warm lighting, local artwork, and a calm vibe perfect for slow mornings. The patio is great for people-watching or enjoying a quiet meal.

The menu blends Latin-inspired flavors with classic breakfast comfort. The chilaquiles are spicy and satisfying, while the soy chorizo scramble offers a hearty vegetarian option. Their signature French toast, made from thick slices of cinnamon bread, is both indulgent and memorable. Another highlight is the rosemary beef hash—flavorful and filling without being too heavy.

Portions are generous, and prices are fair for the quality and creativity. Service is friendly, fast, and helpful even during busy hours, and the staff seems to genuinely enjoy what they do.

The Mission is perfect whether you're fueling up before a Padres game or just grabbing a slow brunch with friends. Creative, flavorful, and consistently good, it's one of those places you return to again and again.

A San Diego Favorite – The Mission Never Disappoints

I discovered The Mission back in 2006 when I first moved to San Diego, and it quickly became one of the most special spots for my roommate and me. It was our go-to weekend ritual — especially after a fun night out with friends at a rock show or bar. There’s just something about waking up the next morning and heading to The Mission for their legendary Bloody Marys — they’re hands down the best way to kickstart a Saturday.

Even when it’s busy (and it often is — for good reason!), the wait never feels too long. The staff is quick, friendly, and efficient, and the service has always been consistently great no matter which location we visit. In all these years, I’ve never had a bad experience — not once.

The food is phenomenal. Every dish is packed with flavor and presented beautifully. Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, you’re guaranteed an incredible meal. That’s why this has become the breakfast spot we bring all our out-of-town guests to — we know they’ll leave happy and impressed.

The Mission holds a lot of great memories for me, and it continues to be a favorite year after year. It’s more than just a restaurant — it’s a tradition, a comfort, and a place I’ll keep coming back to for years to come.

Everything was going well till we got our food, the food wasn't bad it was the bad taste left in our mouths when the server decided to force our dessert onto us before we were even a 1/4 of the way through our meal. We then were brought the bill not 2 mins later . We walked in at 8:36pm waited 10 mins to order waited 20 minutes for food to have the bill placed in front of us at 9:20pm and we weren't even half way through our main course! We spoke to the manager who kept repeating that his waiter was a good server, nobody questioned if the waiter was good or not. The manager was dismissive of the fact we felt like we were being rushed.
