This was my first time here, I usually go to the one on Morena Blvd. This one had seating outside in the sun or inside in the cavernous dark. The front door slammed shut and is something I would address because there should be a welcoming sound when you enter. We sat in fun, older booths and ordered drinks. The chips and individual plastic salsa cups were delivered. We tried burritos and a lettuce wrap chicken and egg plant. I was trying out eggplant and I usually don't like it which was the case here, but I did like the chicken. Next time, I'd only get the chicken like the helpful waitress suggested. Or I'll get a fajita next time. This place has so much fun potential and it's spacious. They could have some fun happy hours with music, mixers, or games.
Parking: Parking is on a hill/slope.
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp on the side.

This is one of my favorite places to eat!! On Mission Gorge Rd . I'm always greeted with a friendly hello and welcome by the wonderful staff. Alot of the staff have been there for several years and when they get to know you they remember what you order and what you like. They check on you often as well. The dining room makes you feel like you are in Mexico. Definitely recommend you try it!!!
Vegetarian options: I get the vegetarian burrito all the time and it's so good . Not sure how many other options there are but just ask . Staff is knowledgeable and accommodating

Not great but not horrible. Essentialy, below average; there's any number of better places. It reminded me of the quality of "Mexican food" I endured during an East Coast assignment (i.e. bland) but now that I'm home, I expect better. From reading other reviews, it seems Tio Leo's declined in quality in the past few years. Sadly, I have to agree and I am not prone to posting negative reviews. The management needs to step up their game given the competition here.

Still our favorite Mexican restaurant in San Diego, we always go there when we’re in town. Love the food, friendly staff.

The quesadilla I ordered was good and the price was good too! The service was great.
I haven't been back here in about 8 years. The atmosphere has really gone downhill. Food and service was decent (nothing wrong but not noteworthy) but bathroom had vomit, the place was empty, and was missing the light casual atmosphere. Was kinda odd. I'll go again as it used to be a mainstay.

The food is good however our food was called in and I originally asked for a chicken tostada and they gave me shredded beef instead. So when I got home I had to drive back to the restaurant to go get my chicken tostada because I had no idea they screwed up. However again the food was good! Will still continue to eat here as the food is really good.

Went in with a small party and refused us service because Stephanie the manager wouldn't let us split checks. She told us that it wasn't fair that she need work that hard. We then split up our group and they still refused to split our check by tables. She was argumentative and yelled at us. I am thinking about dropping her a jab application church's chicken.

If you're low on money, you can buy yourself a meager meal for under$10 including tax.

Was at this location on 8/15/23 as a birthday celebration. Compared to my visit there Apx 6 months ago it has gone downhill. I was embarrassed by bringing my date there. Neither one of us had a good experience.I will not return.

We first dined here over 2 years ago and it was amazing; this last time, not so much.Food: Table Chips were store bought, table salsa tasted old, beef taco had no flavor, cheese enchilada was undercooked, and the house margarita looked and tasted like a slurpee. Table guacamole was the best tasting food item.Service: I’m not sure why but they appeared to be seriously understaffed. One server for the room of 13+ tables. Two expeditors/busters, one bartender and one other person who appeared to be doing multiple tasks. Menu was dirty with dried sauce or salsa, table and seats felt dirty, and the floors looked like the carpet had been taken out but they hadn’t finished the floors.Atmosphere: There was no music playing. When I asked the server, she apologized and gave a excuse of being “really busy” and “hadn’t had a chance to turn it on.” When the music did come on it was so slow in volume that you could barely tell it was playing. There was a big sign stating: “No host on duty.” Not sure if it’s budget or other costs, but a host/hostess is imperative. Overall the place felt dirty and neglected. It needs something. New flooring, a fresh coat of paint, LED lighting, just something.
Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu
