AB Steaks, a newcomer to San Francisco, is quickly gaining recognition for its high-quality Korean barbecue. Open for just a couple of weeks, the restaurant, already a favorite in Los Angeles, fills a noticeable gap in the city's dining scene.
The menu features a variety of grilled meats, including the Snow Flower Kkotsal (Australian wagyu boneless short rib) and the Deung Shim (7 oz Australian wagyu ribeye). Both are highly marbled and cooked to perfection, delivering a melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich, beefy flavor. The meat is so tender that it melts in the mouth, and the staff grills the meats at the table to ensure they are cooked perfectly. For a more familiar Korean experience, the Marinated Galbi (USDA Prime boneless short rib) offers a sweet, savory, and tender option.
Complementing the meat dishes is a selection of sides. The Vegetable Platter features grilled asparagus, onion, mushroom, zucchini, and tomato, adding a touch of freshness to the meal. A standout dish is the Spicy Tofu Jjigae, a hearty and comforting soup simmered for six hours and enriched with wagyu short rib, silken tofu, and vegetables. The banchan dishes are particularly tasty, considered some of the best ever by diners.
The service is attentive and dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience. Staff members grill the meats tableside and keep them warm on warming plates, ensuring each dish is served at its optimal temperature. The restaurant also offers other options, such as the AB Pizza with Truffle, which adds extra flavor to the pizza, although some found the wine pricing less approachable.
With its exceptional food, attentive service, and unique menu, AB Steaks is a must-visit destination for meat lovers and fans of Korean cuisine alike. The restaurant’s aged meats and great bar drinks make it a reliable choice for those seeking high-quality Korean barbecue in a welcoming setting.
