John's Grill Reviews
Fantastic meal, Steaks were cooked perfectly. Amazing food! Highly recommend anyone going when visiting SanFrancisco! Comfortable seating and service was great!
Twice in one week. Visiting from out of town and this is a must do in San Francisco. This could easily become a regular haunt for me. So far I've had the surf and turf, bisque and the lamb chops. Absolutely delicious food.
A charming true SF institution that feels like ur in center of culture and history! The authentic jazz music really makes the experience, where you’re right in the best seats anywhere u sit. John's Grill is a historic and classic San Francisco restaurant celebrated for its great food and service. It offers large portions, including delicious fries and the best steak in town at a fair price. The restaurant has a lively, energetic atmosphere that combines old-school charm with a modern vibe, making it a popular spot for both special occasions and casual visits. The decor and vintage neon signs create a welcoming and photo-worthy exterior, while inside, the upbeat environment enhances the overall experience. Guests often enjoy dishes like Caesar salads and ribeye steaks, served with baked potatoes, vegetables, and fresh sourdough bread.
Visitors have noted the excellent vegan meatballs, which are not on the menu but were highly praised. The service is attentive, efficient, and personable from start to finish, with staff ready to assist, including accommodating those with ambulatory needs. A notable feature is the famous Dashiell booth, where the author finished writing The Maltese Falcon. The restaurant also offers NA cocktail options, adding variety. Many guests have enjoyed the great espresso martinis and delicious Old Fashioneds, as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
However, some have mentioned that the noise level can be high, making it hard to converse. Its central location makes it easy to visit before or after shows at nearby theaters or attractions. Many feel it’s a place they could enjoy every day, making it a top choice for both special nights out and entertaining guests.
