“Overall I was happy with my visit, but I wasn't wowed either. The highlight here is the food, the fish is excellent, and the amberjack and spot prawn were exceptional. Be prepared to spend at least $50-60 here, realistically you're approaching the $100 mark to leave without needing some supplement. Service was very attentive, and the only negative part was being abruptly informed that our 90 minute booked slot had expired when we tried to order dessert, a warning about the 90 minute slot would have been appreciated.“

“WILL. BE. BACK. WOW!!! Truly an incredible experience. The service, the atmosphere and the ambience, the food, the cocktails we’re all exquisite. If I had the money, I would try everything on the menu in one sitting. But I will be back to try everything in increments. It was so lovely there and my friend and I just really enjoyed ourselves in that space. I can’t wait to try the udon and the peach dessert. I forget our waiter’s name, but he had a mustache and he was so above and beyond, and deserves all of the tips that you could ever think of. Pretty much all the staff deserves all the tips and handshakes and blessings that you could give them because they all were so nice and welcoming and great at their jobs. “Really enjoyed my 3 course prix fixe meal at Spruce. It had been a few years since I'd dined there and it was as good as I remembered. I had the som come over and suggest 2 glasses to pair with the meal and they were truly lovely. The waiter (Ryan) made me feel special the entire evening, and the chef even came out to greet me. I really enjoyed my meal there, thanks to the entire team, and can't wait to come back! Kind regards.“

The thin sliced veal with a sauce and capers was delicious! The fried shrimp, veggies and olives/anchovies…also with a sauce was awesome as well. For my main, I had CRESTE DI GALLO - semolina pasta - wild mushroom ragu - spinach - ricotta salata. Our waiter was the best! I saved one of the sugar cookies from my deserts…Burnt Carmel Gelato. Mentioned it to our waiter and as we were leaving, I heard “Sir! Sir!” He brought me one of their meringue cookies to also share with my partner! I thought that was just awesome! “I first heard about this place because Zendaya once mentioned it as one of her favorite spots in the Bay Area. After visiting, I can definitely see why it’s so popular. The bakery was busy, the bread was fresh, pastries were still warm, and everything smelled amazing. Whenever I visit a new bakery, I always order a croissant because that’s my way of judging how good a bakery is. This time, I got the chocolate croissant and a carrot muffin. The chocolate croissant was good, but not the best I’ve had in the Bay. I wish it had been flakier, with more layers and a richer buttery flavor. The carrot muffin was okay too. My mom liked it, but it just wasn’t my favorite. That said, the prices are affordable, and it’s still a solid bakery overall. So, I’d still stop by if I were in the area.“

budino: don’t typically like chocolate but wasn’t too sweet and decadent.“

- Charley: most amazing waiter. Friendly and so on top of it. Anticipated what we needed and paid attention to details. Realized an app I mentioned was lost in a service handoff on his own and said he'd make it happen.
- Flourless chocolate cake: fluffiest version I've had with just the right amount of subtle sweetness. 5 stars
- White shrimp: fantastic chilled starter can order by the piece. 5 stars
- Fritto: lightly fried crispy calamari, broccolini, and the surprise star; eggplant. 5 stars
- Anchovies: not too salty or briny and my friend enjoyed them. 5 stars
- Chicken: well cooked and appreciated the brine: 4.5 stars
- Roasted tomatoes and peppers: as sides for the steak were almost Chez Panisse worthy wonderful. 4.5 stars
- Acme bread and butter: solid and appreciate no bread plates to encourage using the paper on the table. 4 stars
- Bavette steak: cooked nicely with flakey salt on top. 4 stars
- Squash and bresaola: unique dish and appreciated the almonds for texture. 4 stars
- Pavlova: unique with fennel and raspberries. Great texture not too crunchy and not too soft. 4 stars
- Atmosphere: simple yet comfortable with several hidden dining rooms upstairs in addition to the downstairs area
- Wine: short list but enjoyed what we had: extra brut, gamey, unique white varietal, and white label house pinot.

Midlights:
- If Barting not the most fun 10 minute walk down market, but could muni closer.

Lowlights:
- Chicken did stay true to its long wait of over an hour which is quite a while. Like that it's done fresh but with most people ordering them you'd think maybe they could have them ready and have a steady stream of fresh ones.
