“All in, 4*sThe food was good don’t worry. But it wasn’t as exceptional as I’d thought it’d be. Maybe I’m being harsh by taking a star away for the appetizer(Katsu), but the sushi rolls were fantastic. We had the Boddy and soul (5* Must try) and the surprise ending (which literally comes with suspense) - I won, it was fun!Boddy and soul was exceptional, the service was amazing, and so were the vibes.Recommended?: Yes!“

“Incredible flavors and a lovely, cozy dining experience. We felt so well taken care of by Tricia and our sushi chef and they made celebrating our anniversary really memorable. The unique flavor combinations and quality of the fish were so good. Some of our favorites from the oki: the ora king salmon, the sea bream, the otoro and the sashimi salad with the shiso flowers. The chef explained each course and paced our meal so we never felt rushed. The sake selection is awesome as well with really unique and different flavors like the takacho "regal hawk" that would be great on its own for sipping and the very plummy ume suppai. Next time I might pick the chisai and try more supplements. We left feeling comfortably full and satisfied.“

I recommend sitting at the sushi bar to get the full experience, our chefs at tables 9 and 10 were fun and engaging throughout service. Had the 18-course dinner, sitting at the chefs counter and I could not be more impressed by the quality and creativity of the food presented! Each course was distinct, delicious, flavorful, and there was nothing “basic” or “common” that was served. My favorites were the chawan-mushi, otoro, uni on uni, Hokkaido scallop and uni, Kyoto-style pressed saba, kelp-cured flounder fin… and more!A few minor critiques: the wagu sukiyaki was tender and delicious, but tasted too sweet. The miso soup was overly salty. And the yuzu sorbet had nice flavor but was served hard like an ice cube.Would definitely return to dine again. Recommended.“

It’s one of the few sushi places where they have makimono that emphasizes fish over rice + other fillings (not that I don’t also love the standard American sushi options, but it’s nice to have a leaner, simpler option). The veggie side dishes are also amazing - the eggplant is charred and juicy but not drowning terribly in oil, and okra is also really good. They also do delivery, which makes it a great casual option.“

Service was quick and we noticed a lot of people ordering to go. We ordered edamame, chicken karage, CA roll, SF roll, caterpillar roll, cherry blossom roll, and rainbow roll. Our food came out quickly. The edamame came out hot and topped with salt. The chicken karage was a decent portion for 2 with fairly big pieces and came with spicy mayo sauce. Chef included strawberry mochi but no uni. The sashimi of fish was fresh and soft. It could melt in your mouth. Toro is my fav. I also ordered wagyu and unagi. Of course, the wagyu beef was tasty, which I prefer to eat it last, so the taste could last longer in your mouth. I love unagi, so it was a must to order. This place was the third restaurant where I could truly have fresh eel. It was so good and I wish I had ordered one more. Very high quality of sashimi. Excellent services. Everything was good, except one point. The suggested tips included taxes. Basically you pay tips for taxes if you go with their suggestion tips. That needs to be changed. I loved the makis but wasn’t very fond of the carpaccios, the sauce is flat and does not bring out the flavor of the fish much.On the other hand, the makis were all very good, the Naruto is one that you should particularly try, spicy tuna with avocado wrapped in a cucumber sheet with ponzu and olive oil, very refreshing. The place has a nice atmosphere with very friendly people, enjoy ?“

“I love this gem of a local restaurant. I love sushi & I love traditional Japanese food. I was very interested from the get go in seeing that they had a Bento lunch special that included saba shioyaki, sashimi, California roll, salad and miso soup. I ordered it and it was delicious. They also serve Gen Mai Cha, makes my heart smile. The food was excellent. Even more impressive is the lunch specials that they serve to the kids from Lincoln High & other schools. They have an open booth in the front, specifically for high school kids (similar to an old school movie theater ticket booth) to where the kids are lined up. They prepare boxes just for them. Also, a ton of local construction workers, SFPD, locals in general. The owners greet everyone when they come in & also do the traditional thank you & goodbye when everyone leaves. They have pictures lining the walls of their regulars on one side of the room. On the other side, drawings from regulars, mostly kids and teenagers. I love this place!!! I took my husband there for lunch last week. We had our normal sushi restaurants for years. Our former favorite changed hands. He was skeptical when we went in. He was wowed when he was served his food. ? It's our new favorite place.“

“Every visit or delivery has been a more than satisfying experience. The food is fresh and cooked to order but served quickly. We've only eaten there once but have gotten food delivered many times. The atmosphere is mellow and soothing and unless you look out the window you can't tell you are on Van Ness.Everything is very clean and our waitress was perfect. The chicken teriyaki is a must-enough for two,it comes with just right white rice and salad with a unique, delicious dressing. My absolute favorite dish,I think it's the best I've ever had and we order it every time. There's nothing crazy here, the menu consists of standard Japanese fare meant to be comforting and nourishing. They have a good selection of sushi and it tastes like it was caught that very day.I could go on and on-for a romantic date I highly recommend coming here.(Note-we ate in late Sunday night, not sure how busy it is other times). Our deliveries are always hot, fresh and properly packaged.Love this place!“

“Super fun vegan sushi menu. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Hours were a bit hard to find online during the soft opening but emailing the staff works well.My friend and I got a good laugh about them not having hot water to serve instead of tea (which seems to be free and super caffeinated !) and then going to the bathroom and the sign read "extremely hot water!" I'm definitely coming back, maybe with my thermos of hot water ?Vegetarian options: Lots of rolls and maki. Vegan dragon roll and cherry blossom roll were the favs!“

“We had such a fabulous experience last night on our first visit to Elephant Sushi. The food is amazing--innovaative, delicious and presented so beautifully. We had the flaming sea bass (of course!) Be sure to order that. Also Hamachi kama (collar), salmon miso soup, albacore tatami, Walu Sashimi. The fish is unbelievably fresh! We can't wait to go back to try other dishes. Our server and our hostess were lovely, incredibly helpful and attentive. And the ambience was special--plenty of large windows with light and air and a fresh decor with vibes of fishing boats. All in all, a really wonderful evening that we will repeat many times. Don't miss this place!“

“I almost don’t want to tell you about how good the sushi is here. Fish so fresh you’d think we’re by the port. And the baked muscles…. A must try. They literally melt in your mouth. & I have not had friendlier, more welcoming service anywhere…. Not to mention the lower east-side NY vibe inside. This is how a neighborhood sushi joint should be. Thank you for some of the best bites around.“
