“Came here for a friend catchup and we got seated and had a reservation beforehand.
Good:
- The ramen came out very quickly - I got the classic ramen bowl
- The portion size was good - I was very full by the end
- A nice place to catch up - it's got japanese izakaya vibes and more dimly lit
Bad:
- The soup was really salty so it felt like it was unhealthy to drink too much of it
Overall this was a solid place to have an extended catch up and the ramen was quick and tasty.“

“I’ve been eating soup all week so when my friends wanted to grab ramen I was looking at what else was on the menu. Big pieces of salmon. Great sauce. Garnishes were delicious. Cold beer served in a glass. It just felt comfortable and the noodles looked great I just wanted something light and fresh.“

Try the Chicken Paitan Soy Sauce ramen—hands down the best ramen I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. The balance of flavors is absolutely perfect. I went to bed without brushing my teeth just so I could savor them all night 🤪“

“I come here about once a week. This place is always busy so put your name down on the waiting list and be prepared to wait 40 minute-80 minutes. The servers are attentive. Food comes out quick and the quality is consistently good. Seating can be tight. Get the deluxe ramen for the pork belly!“

“I’ve been looking for a good shio ramen ever since Ramen Halu in San Jose closed several years ago. And I finally found it in Ramen Hiroshi and quite by accident. Absolutely delicious chicken shio ramen - just the right level of salt and very refreshing. The chicken chashu was also among the best I’ve had - very juicy and tasty. I’ll definitely be coming back often!“

“Spicy garlic tonkatsu ramen with spice level extra was pretty good, although I would call the spice level medium at most. The noodles were nice and springy and held the soup well. I did not find any ground pork in the soup. The waitress told me that they make the soup with ground pork. Maybe, but I doubt that ground pork dissolves completely. Probably, they forgot to put it in, but it was ok. Gyoza was also good.“

“This place uses beef based broth which is a nice departure from the common pork and chicken ramen offerings. We also tried the crispy mushrooms, gyoza, and oxtail appetizers, with the mushrooms being the favorite. The place was packed and it was a bit hard to flag them down for water refills, but the food was totally worth it. Highly recommended.“
“Went here for lunch right as they opened. Absolutely amazing for counter serve ramen. It comes in a plastic bowl and you have to eat it with a tiny plastic spoon, but it's like 90-95% as tasty as the full Mensho restaurants in SF and Oakland.
If you want lamb in your ramen like me, I recommend getting one of the lamb varieties, rather than adding lamb to the regular ramen as I did (my mistake, can't fault the store for this). It kind of overpowers the other flavors, but was still amazing.
I wish you could get beer or sake here, but for lunch ramen, this place can't be beaten.“

“Best meal we've ever had.
Each dish was executed to perfection and the level of variety and uniqueness was unparalleled. There were so many different and novel flavor combinations. The most unique and the best ramens I've ever had.
The owners are so lovely and you can see the hard work and passion for cooking that they've put in. I can't wait for another opportunity to taste their cooking.“

“My fiancé and I visited Rural Ramen on New Year’s Day while spending a couple of days in San Francisco, and it was a highlight of our trip. The ramen was absolutely delicious—while we’re no experts, this was hands down the best tonkotsu ramen we’ve ever had. The ambience was warm and pleasant, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We also tried the flavored nigiri in strawberry and pineapple, which were a fun and tasty surprise, along with the shrimp tempura, which was perfectly cooked. We’d definitely come back and highly recommend this spot! 🍜“

“Hinodeya is situated in a happening area of the Marina and serves excellent quality food. Went with my partner for a date night we got swift service and excellent quality food. The Umami Brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked with bonito flakes dancing as the steam wafted from the plate. My ramen was light and flavourful and, though I’m not the biggest fish fan, the dashi broth was not overwhelming. Hinodeya also has great vegan ramen options, which is uncommon. My partner is vegan and this was a great feature for them. Additionally, the garden patio in the back is a lovely place to sit for a meal. Tables can be close together, but it creates a nice communal energy. And may lead to fun conversation across groups.“

“This place has officially ruined ramen for me. Because if I go somewhere else, I’ll compare it to this place, and just be like, “Damn, I should’ve just gone to Taniku Izakaya instead.”
Perfectly cooked noodles in a flavorful broth, both the crab and the pork that I have gotten have been amazing. They can adjust the spiciness on the broth if you can’t handle too much spice, which is nice. The portions are generous, but not so huge that there ends up being a huge bowl of broth even after you finish your noodles. Delicious gyoza, as well.
It’s a nice, cozy, hole in the wall spot.“

“Beyond the best Ramen in SF. It’s no wonder it’s always on the top 100 for the Chronicle. Michelin needs to review“
“A hole-in-the-wall with ambience and moody lighting, serving tasty food behind a medieval-looking door. This restaurant always looked closed, but I finally decided to open the door today to order the Chashu Braised Pork Belly, the first item on the menu posted on the window, to go. Inside were beautiful hanging lights and an assortment of plants that gave the place a cozy atmosphere. There was only one other customer who was about to leave at the time I entered. After ordering and paying over $8 ($7 +taxes), I asked the cashier if it was always that empty and she said no. Apparently, there used to be lots of customers before the pandemic, but since it was a barbeque place, they needed special tables. It's a small restaurant with a small storefront, and next to a parking lot, so there isn't really room to build a parklet or put tables outside.I got my food about nine minutes after ordering, in a medium-sized paper bag, which felt a little light. When I got home, I excitedly opened the bag to see what was inside. It was three pieces of pork belly (which, by the way, is one of the cheaper cuts of pork) inside a tiny aluminum container, with a piece of arugula on top. I was a bit underwhelmed. Each piece was about the size of two Chapstick containers side-by-side. The pork belly was very tender and basically melted in my mouth. It was some great pork belly, and because it was protein and fat, it was filling. Still, I expected more. This is a nice hole-in-the-wall that most people walk past without thinking. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, but I expected more than three pieces of pork for the price. However, based on other reviews, the ramen is probably fantastic. I really want to give five stars, but my experience was worth four stars.“

“I love that this chain has a yummy vegan ramen noodle and doesn't default to using rice noodles for their vegan ramen. The size of pumpkin slice you get seems to vary but otherwise flavors are on point every time I go. I always order the creamy vegan ramen, but it's nice that there's more than one vegan option. Currently my favorite spot to eat in SF.“

“Tried Miki Japanese on Balboa and it was a good experience. Friendly staff and efficient service along with a casual ambiance. The chirashi bowl had fresh fish with seasoned rice, nicely portioned and balanced. The salmon teriyaki and mixed tempura bento was also solid — the salmon was cooked well with a flavorful glaze, and the tempura was crisp without being oily. The bento sides rounded out the meal well. Overall, a good spot for Japanese food in the neighborhood.“

“I finally tried this place out after some years. I’ve wanted to for some time but they close early at 5:30. I usually eat ramen at night, too bad they don’t stay open for dinner.
I was pleasantly surprised that the Karamiso Ramen was tasty and satisfying. I’ll definitely go back again.“

“The manager made certain the restaurant was still open for us as we could not arrive until 10:00pm from our flight. We quickly selected our appetizer and main courses. The food was brought quickly. It was very tasty and served hot. The waiter was very nice and quite attentive. Great place! It is rare for a restaurant in an airport to be so good.“

The food and vibe is hearty and made with love. No Reservations. Come over, put you name down, but you can enjoy wine or beer from a freat ludt inside or outsides as you wait. Shhh!!! Don't tell anyone else.“

“Really interesting take on Ramen broth. The beef broth is rich yet not too thick. I prefer a richer Paitan but this is also good. Black garlic oil also adds more depth to the soup.
The noodle is bouncy and chewy with a strong smell of egg noodle.
Crispy mushroom is good but can be a little too salty to finish by a single person. A touch of something citrusy would help cut through the greasiness after half a dish.“

“Nice spot with 2 of my favorites items - ramen & boba. The food was pretty good, and you get to choose the type of meat in your ramen. At the end they gave us mango sorbet, what a nice surprise.
Popcorn Chicken ($8) - we had mixed reviews from my party. I liked it and thought the sauce was good.
Black Garlic Oil Ramen ($18) - nicely presented dish but flavor-wise I liked my friend's Spicy Tonkatsu more. The egg and chashu were ok.“

“Editing this review because we were refused service because “dining is closing” at 2:19 for a 3 pm closing. I was offered takeout, but that was not possible for us. I can only assume the server didn’t want to stay 5 minutes past 3:00pm. left a very bad taste. One of my very favorite Ramen spots. Not only is the Ramen varied and inventive, but they also offer some other side dishes that you don’t see everywhere else. I particularly like the Japanese pumpkin tempura. They also have a variety of fairly priced sake’s.“

“I was actually jonesing for some good Japanese curry when we were searching for a place to eat.. I decided on Fumi because the Japanese curry before the ramen lol must be good if it’s first right? “reasonably priced ramen. The food was really good. The tonkatsu broth was excellent and went well with the pork. My daughter had the chicken ramen which was a little overcooked but still tasty. My other daughter had the veggie tofu with mild spice. Mild was still pretty spicy so avoid if your sensitive to spicy food. Overall we were pleased and will return.“

“Totally understand why this place has such a high rating!
Sushi was amazing, the wait was a little long, but if you’re on a date totally recommend, I ordered sushi and another thing ( don’t remember the name, but it was delicious),
And the fish feels sooooo fresh!
Definitely will be returning back,
Make sure to make reservation, it’s super easy, since the place is small if you come in a group might be challenging to get seated immediately,
Definitely will be coming back! 🫶🏻“

“My biggest regret is not knowing this place existed sooner! I’ve lived in the area for close to 10 years and while I’ve learned the neighborhood gems this one remained hidden. Prices are incredible, food is even better. My only comment is order the chicken katsu instead of the teriyaki, the teriyaki is good and worth the price but the katsu is too good for what it’s worth! I’ve tried all the Japanese curry places around, I love Volcano, but if I’m looking for a great meal, a good price, and a satisfying end to my night, the late hours and wonderful food of Xiaoyu is not just a place to settle for, it’s the one I’m hoping is open, and lucky for me, they usually are!“

“Came by around 7:30pm, the day before Thanksgiving and was seated right away. Ordered a yuzu jello alcoholic drink, soju, okonomiyaki fries and the chocolate tarfufo for dessert. The yuzu jello was fun to eat. The fries had the flavors of okonomiyaki, it even came with sliced cabbage at the bottom. Fries were crispy. We came to celebrate a friend’s birthday and the staff brought a birthday candle with the dessert. The chocolate tarfufo is basically chocolate ice cream. What made the night special was the staff. She was very welcoming and sweet. They also have a happy hour menu which looks intriguing.“

“We arrived at 4:50pm on a rainy Sunday and waited ~45mins to get seated (group of 3). The restaurant’s capacity can accommodate 28 guests and they were very efficient with their process (i.e. they took note of group size in line, made sure people reviewed the menu before getting seated, and they had an one-hour limit). Our service was quick. We had both the signature and spicy versions of Tori Paitan, and spicy lamb ramen. Also an order of their seasonal Hokkaido uni and A5 wagyu hand roll. The broth of all 3 ramens was rich, full of umami. Spice added more to the flavor but almost non-existent on the heat front. Chashu was a great balance of fatty part and meat. The fried shaved carrots and eggplant in the lamb ramen were such a pleasant touch to the bowl of perfectly chewy ramen. The A5 wagyu was buttery and melted in your mouth good. Uni was just okay - I had higher expectations with Hokkaido uni. The sushi rice was a bit on the dry side as well. All being said, I’d still say this is a place I would return.“
