My partner and I love doing their tastings where you get to try 4 of their pours of that week from a particular winery, for a great price. Also good food and non-alcoholic options like tea. Adela and Tala are always so friendly and welcoming. Sometimes there’s live music or fun events like Mother’s Day breakfast. We try to come here often despite it being a 45 min trip for us by Muni. “Excellent experience from start to finish. Service was attentive without hovering. Never a long wait between courses.

We started with the bean dip, muhamara with flatbread, octopus, olives, and cauliflower. The octopus was the standout: smoky, sweet, tangy, and briny all on one plate. The dips were generous and flavorful.

We split the whole branzino for mains. Perfectly cooked and portioned well.

The atmosphere is casual but elevated. The value is better than comparable restaurants at this tier. You get real portions here, which matters when the check arrives.

Highly recommend for special occasions or a nice dinner out.“

bosque

bosque Wine Bar • $$
609 Hayes St, San Francisco

“I cannot rave about this place and the food, service and workers enough! I hosted a private event here on a Saturday night with 35 guests and everything was perfect. I don't have many photos of the place and the food we had throughout the night, but everything exceeded our expectations.

The food:
I pretty much ordered the entire menu and every dish was a hit. I had a couple of vegetarians and people with allergies in my party and the staff was extremely thoughtful and attentive to our needs. Myself and my guests' favorite dishes included the mushrooms, scallops (pictured), cod and the steak. Given my event, I had pre-ordered from the menu, but many of my guests kept asking for additional items as they were too delicious to not get a second serving.

The space:
Bosque has the perfect cozy seating, lighting, music and atmostphere for an intimate and personal event. The space feels warm and inviting, also perfect for a date night or a night out with close friends. I had a couple people fly in from out of town for my party and they were so impressed by the space. The lighting and aesthetics were perfect for the many photos we took throughout the night!

The service/staff:
The wait staff, kitchen and managers of Bosque were all so friendly and accommodating for my event. They really emphasized making sure everything was to my own liking and really went the extra mile with the music and AV set up. Throughout the night, the wait staff was attentive to our party, making sure our glasses were filled and that dishes came out at the right pace. I had been planning this event with the manager for about a month and all of our interactions were warm and professional. He's also super knowledgeable and patient about wine selection which I greatly appreciated, and all of his suggestions worked out.

Again, cannot recommend Bosque enough to anyone that would like to host a private event or even just come in for a delicious dinner in an inviting space! Shoutout to the Bosque team for helping make my event happen, it was truly a night I won't be forgetting! Can't wait to go back and indulge on more wine and yummy dishes on another night.“

El Chato is a neighborhood favorite with a relaxed vibe, an impressive natural wine list, and tapas that hit the spot every time. Expect canned fish done beautifully, marinated olives, tortilla de patata, and dishes that pair perfectly with a crisp Spanish white. It feels like discovering a secret hideout, except everyone you know already loves it.

Great for: date nights, wine nights, sharing plates, “let’s catch up” evenings.“

“This place was lovely! They have a fantastic selection of natural wines, and my friend and I had a great time exploring and trying several different options.

The food was excellent as well. We started with a beautiful burrata and spring pea dish, which was fresh and delicious. We also shared the Cacio e Pepe steak sandwich. I especially enjoyed the green peppercorns, apple, and greens—the combination of flavors worked really well. The portion was generous and easily large enough for two people to share.

My only note for the kitchen is regarding the sandwich's assembly. While all of the ingredients were tasty, they weren't distributed evenly throughout the sandwich. As a result, some bites were mostly steak, while others were primarily greens. I think the sandwich would be even better if the fillings were spread more consistently from edge to edge so that each bite included a little of everything. Hopefully that makes sense—it's a small detail, but it would make an already good sandwich even more enjoyable.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely return.“

Wolfsbane Wine Bar
2495 3rd St, San Francisco

“Wolfsbane has been one of the most talked-about new openings in SF, widely described as a must-try dining experience, so I was excited to check it out. Unfortunately, I can’t say I’d recommend it over other restaurants in the city at this price point. I’m writing this review with the level of food and service I expect from a tasting menu in this category.

The food was good overall, but only 3 of the 11 courses truly stood out — the crab, the sole, and the caviar course. The caviar course was excellent. The green apple cream added a slightly sweet brightness that balanced the rich, umami depth of the caviar beautifully. It is a supplement, but if you enjoy caviar, it’s worth adding.

The sole was probably the best sole I’ve ever had. I was initially skeptical seeing it on the menu — it’s often bland, easily overcooked, and paired with heavy butter sauces that overpower the fish. Wolfsbane’s preparation completely changed my mind. The fish is grilled over charcoal, served with a light sauce, and paired with a charcoal-grilled green onion. The result was light, delicate, and deeply smoky without feeling heavy. The green onion added a savory depth that complemented the fish perfectly.

The remaining courses ranged from fine (the artichoke snack) to technically excellent but not especially inventive (the duck). At this price point, I expect more moments that feel memorable rather than merely well executed.

Service is ultimately where the experience fell short for me. Dinner lasted four hours, with long gaps between many courses. Four hours felt excessive for an 11-course meal, and by the end I was restless. The staff were friendly but not particularly attentive. Empty glasses often remained on the table through the next course, and I spent about five minutes trying to flag someone down to order wine, only for the next dish to arrive before I could place the order.

The sommelier, however, was fantastic, knowledgeable, and engaging. Small details added up elsewhere: drink menus weren’t cleared unless requested, and pacing felt inconsistent throughout the night. Individually these are minor issues, but together they didn’t meet the level of service I expect at this price.

Ironically, some of the warmest hospitality came at the very end of the evening when I spoke with a couple servers on my way out —both were genuinely warm and delightful.

Overall, Wolfsbane has flashes of excellence, but in a city with so many strong fine dining options, I wouldn’t prioritize it over other tasting menu experiences in SF.“

“If you are a caviar lover, you have to go here. They have caviar from their own farm and it is a sustainable operation. The prices are fair for caviar. No, it’s not cheap, but if you consider a small spoonful of caviar at a restaurant is upwards of $50, it’s a solid price. My favorite caviars/roes I’ve tried in order of enjoyment: golden osetra, osetra, estate, baerii, truffled whitefish roe. If you are curious about caviar, Tsar Nicoulai is the best place to give it a try at a reasonable price. Their caviar is wonderful.“

“I honestly don’t even know where to begin. From start to finish, it was the most mind-blowing experience I’ve ever had.

We met this beautiful, joyful woman named Luka, who was so kind. She sat us down at the bar, where we enjoyed some lovely drinks. They also gave us happy hour oysters, which were, of course, delicious.

Then we were seated at our table, where we got to meet the whole team. Each person individually welcomed us and attended to all our needs. Even the head chef came out personally, greeted us, and offered us items from the menu as a gesture of kindness—which, honestly, I don’t feel we even deserved.

The food was absolutely amazing. Everything was so delicious, and the flavors never clashed. I truly don’t have a single bad word to say. I can’t wait for them to receive their first Michelin star—they all deserve it.

I will definitely be coming back. Thank you to all the wonderful people for the hard work they put in—not just in bringing the food out quickly, but in doing so with love and care.
