“Mensho is definitely not worth the wait in my opinion. The line is usually 45min-1hr long. Coupled with the fact that parking is hard to find and the restraunt is tiny and cramped, you are better off going to marufuku or hinodeya.

I had the spicy GKO. Compared to the other garlic ramen I have had in ramenagi this was ok. The chasu is belly slices like marufuku and not the spiral rolled belly cross section which I prefer since it falls apart more easily.

They don't give you a lot of toppings on the ramen. There is no ajitama or menma in the default. Given that the price point is higher than other sf ramens this doesn't seem like value for money.

Clearly other people disagree since there is a line out the door but also the restraunt is tiny so this could be artificial scarcity and the insta hype cycle.“

Workers were going at it getting orders out left and right and seemed to enthusiastic about it producing yummy meals for people 🙌🏼“

“This place is amazing. Far superior to Mensho. No flashy gimmicks. The thick Sapporo noodle is the way to go. Amazing flavor from the broth. The pork chashu was amazing as well. “Taniku is our favorite izakaya spot in the city. There can be a bit of a wait, but they do sometimes let you make a reservation if you call well ahead.

The small dishes don't disappoint, especially the kinoko nimono and the agedashi tofu. Their ramen and handrolls are delicious too.

Skewers have been just okay. Perhaps we didn't order the right items.

Nothing hits the spot better than the first chug of cold beer in front of a table covered with appetizers.“

“This is the best ramen in Oakland and possibly the Bay Area. I’m still trying new ramen spots but out of 22 that I’ve tried throughout the Bay Area this is the best I ever had! The toloyaki is really good as well.

“This palce is a certain of community and history on Bernal Heights. Old friends come in to greetings of hugs and kisses from the staff. New patrons are welcomed in almost equal fashion! The food and vibe is hearty and made with love. No Reservations. Come over, put you name down, but you can enjoy wine or beer from a freat ludt inside or outsides as you wait. Shhh!!! “Nice and cozy place in San Leandro to get Japanese food. The ambience is nice and I love the interior design. Good selection of beer and sake too. The sashimis are fresh and flavorful, and they pay great attention to the aesthetic of the plate. Definitely Instagram worthy plates. The rolls are also very delicious. I got the garlic albacore roll and it was so good. Also the fatty bluefin tuna sashimi (Toro) is so worth every penny. They're one of the few sushi restaurants around San Leandro that serve it and it just tastes so much better than every other sashimi imo. It's a bit of a mix between tuna and the fattiness of salmon sashimi. A little bit pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area, but definitely worth your money.“

I love Hinodeya and am so glad they have so many locations! Their creamy vegetarian ramen is my favorite. Sometimes it can feel like you’re missing out on good food when you don’t eat meat, but Hinodeya makes sure to not sacrifice any flavor!

“Went here for lunch right as they opened. Absolutely amazing for counter serve ramen. It comes in a plastic bowl and you have to eat it with a tiny plastic spoon, but it's like 90-95% as tasty as the full Mensho restaurants in SF and Oakland.

If you want lamb in your ramen like me, I recommend getting one of the lamb varieties, rather than adding lamb to the regular ramen as I did (my mistake, can't fault the store for this). It kind of overpowers the other flavors, but was still amazing.

I wish you could get beer or sake here, but for lunch ramen, this place can't be beaten.“

I tried Kyoto Ramen for the first time today. I was feeling down after dropping my kid off at college a few days ago (I thought I was ready, but I was NOT). I decided I needed to eat and I remembered seeing Kyoto Ramen while in El Cerrito. I am so glad I did. I am always a little nervous when trying a new restaurant, but when I walked in, it smelled good. The place was clean and there was plenty of seating. I ordered my ramen and had my food within 5-6 minutes.

The ramen was flavorful, the noodles were firm and substantial. The pork was tender and delicious. The whole thing was Yumm! I would rate this in my top 5 ramen experiences here in the East Bay.

If you are in the mood for some tasty ramen, then I suggest you try this place. Especially since winter is coming!“

“I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality of the food, the warm and friendly ambiance and the wonderful jazz guitarist. The ramen noodles are made fresh onsite and my vegan ramen was surprisingly exquisite. The owners work there and are genuinely gracious and relaxed. The music wasn’t too loud. “Amazing ramen! The beef and eggs are perfectly cooked. The noodle is al dente which makes the texture of the ramen bowl fun to eat. The soup is on the lighter side, compared to the other ramen shops. The beef flavor is definitely there. It is just that not salty and oily. I got the traditional one, which is very good. My most favorite though is my friend's yuzu ramen. The flavor just woke me up with the refreshing yuzu citrusy flavor! Highly recommended if you like ramen but not the heaviness/saltiness you get afterwards. Definitely will come back to try more things.. and get my own yuzu ramen!“

“I came here after going to Marufuku in walnut creek and having the absolute worst ramen of my life. I had to get that garbage taste out of my mouth.

Ramen shop accomplished that mission. The ramen egg was eggcellent. It was fully seasoned with a cured yolk. If you zoom in on the egg you can tell the texture of the white wasn't perfect but I think that is just part of making them in mass quantities for a restaurant.

The noodles were very good. Good texture and good snap. The broth was creamy and rich. I ate everything, including the soup.

I very much enjoyed that it looks like they took a torch to the chashu to give it a good charr which elevated it to another level. Really made it stand out from other chashu at other ramen shops.

Definitely recommend eating here. Some of my favorite ramen in the east bay.“

“I was actually jonesing for some good Japanese curry when we were searching for a place to eat.. I decided on Fumi because the Japanese curry before the ramen lol must be good if it’s first right? Also, for any GBOers who see this, the spicy rice cakes (Tteokbokki) is not portioned for a full meal!
