I have only had absolutely spectacular experiences here, every single time I’ve come. This is the best ramen I’ve ever had in the Berkeley area! The meal is very hearty and the mushrooms are especially delicious. Apart from the food, the service is excellent.
The first time I came here, they took my coat off the chair and offered to hang it up for me on these hangers next to the door. I’ve never experienced that before. The second time, the food was delicious...read full review

Best service from any restaurant ever. Cute Japanese lady and young East Asian man who served us. One of our party members has a severe seafood allergy to the point of anafalaxis and normally she would have been fine as she had been there before but this time there was a smell of fried calamari someone had ordered. My mom had to step out and we were in a predicament. The people were so nice they let her sit on a bench outside to eat even thought they didn’t have outdoor...read full review
I'm not a huge ramen fan, but this place made me one. The broth was flavor and rich without feeling overwhelming. The pork and chicken broths were great! Highly recommend!

Tsuruya is a restaurant that serves authentic Japanese ramen, located a 7-minute walk from the Residence Inn. The tonkotsu ramen broth has a rich and flavorful taste, reminiscent of ramen from Japan. The spicy paste has a yuzu kick that gives the dish a light sour zest, and the spicy level is truly spicy. The black garlic tonkotsu ramen is a must-try. The ramen and egg are perfectly cooked, and the broth has a thick consistency with a deep flavor, as if it has been stewed for hours. The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff and the owner being Japanese. The service is excellent, and attention to detail is evident in both the presentation of the food and the decor. Many customers praise the food and service, and some mention that dishes like the Tonkatsu and chicken karaage are fantastic. The yuzu sorbet adds a tart and refreshing touch to the meal. Though small, Tsuruya offers a genuine Japanese ramen experience with flavors and customer care that leave a lasting impression. It’s a great spot for casual dining and a memorable authentic ramen experience.
