“This place is so worth it. My family has been going for 10+ years, almost since the beginning of the restaurant when it was in a different location. Aki-San will tell you when you’re eating something wrong, but it’s not mean-spirited. You should definitely ask him about his life and his journey to becoming a sushi chef. The sushi is the best you will ever have, even better than sushi I had when I visited Japan. It may be very expensive, but if you have the means it is extremely worth the price. Don’t ask for specific things, get what he recommends (but don’t be scared if you have diet restrictions to ask for something that works). Is is an amazing experience so if you go really enjoy it.“

“I have dined at a fair number of sushi restaurants in America as well as some of the finest in Tokyo. Kuma distinguishes itself by having served me the best Chirashi Bowl (I had the Chirashi Deluxe), that I have had in my life. What made the bowl better than some good ones I’ve had was not only the excellent fish on top… but the thoughtfully composed bottom of purple rice with tasty nuggets of egg, soybeans, pickled cucumber, braised tofu, sliced lemon, and tobiko. It was SO GOOD. So if you love Chirashi, or just love thoughtfully prepared sushi, this is THE PLACE!“

“All the food looks amazing! Unfortunately, a most of the fishes on the nigiri was kind of tasteless so it's hard to distinguish between the pieces. I didn't like the fish eggs because it was slightly fishy - this might be my personal palette though. The eel with avocado and cucumbers was really tasty.
Note, I suggest looking at what you're purchasing because the fish pieces might slightly differ in size. And for the price your paying, you probably want the bigger pieces like how I would.“

“This was a surprise dinner my friend invited me on. The hand rolls are so fresh and delicious. I had 5 amazing rolls that come out one at a time for freshness m. The server was super sweat and helped me pick out what I wanted. The menu does also have set options, but I decided to do individual rolls. I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the Oakland area.“

“I had dinner at Nakama with a girlfriend last weekend, and it was such a great experience. The food was delicious! We ordered a few rolls and some sake, and everything really hit the spot.

The thoughtfulness, sustainability and conscious touch to every little thing made this Omakase experience above the rest. I just went for date night with my daughter (back from college) and had the best sushi in the Bay Area!!!

The Omakase was superb!!! The highlight was hamachi with truffle and the unagi was the best I’ve ever tasted.

We also had the lion king (because which was “just right”!

Our server was terrific - she recommended the chef special, Ika Sugata (Grilled whole Squid with Jalapeño & Mango 🤩)

We also got the delicious Garlic Edamame and took an order of Matcha Tres Leche to go.

It wasn’t “cheap” but it was soooo worth it!!!

“The handrolls were absolutely delicious. The staff were very attentive and the food came out quickly. There was enough variety to incentivize you to try the different options, but not so much that you would get overwhelmed. We went during happy hour and were very pleased with the experience. The restaurant is not very big, but it was not busy during our visit.“

“I've been many times and always enjoy the food. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary today, so in my reservation request I asked if they could play our song after we got there. Without saying anything to the staff about it when we arrived, the song came on a little after we were seated. We both teared up a bit; it surprised me how something so simple could feel so special. Turned out to be a low key place with friendly service and good non-fancy sushi. Tried the Saba and Hamachi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, one of the baked sushi options and salads & miso soup. They also have this weird robot thing, so the service is super fast despite only being one or two servers for the whole restaurant. I’ve had way more expensive sushi that was not this good. Classic restaurant sushi can be cold and stiff, this is way better. The couple who runs the store are kind and good cooks.“

“This is a great little place to have sushi for lunch. I ordered a salmon teriyaki box and there was a generous portion of salmon, rice, salad, and veggies. My husband had a sushi box and said that it was very good. The prices are reasonable considering the location. The restaurant's very small so there's not much seating but it's possible to use a couple of picnic tables outside.“

“I’m adding a star for Yoki after another great visit. I went again for the all‑you‑can‑eat option and was pleasantly surprised by how fresh the sashimi and nigiri were. The tuna especially was top notch.

This time I tried a few more rolls, and the Heaven Roll really stood out — spicy tuna spread over the top with salmon and sashimi inside. It was the spiciest tuna I’ve ever had, and it lived up to its name.

Service is excellent here. I love their ordering system with iPads at the table — perfect for all‑you‑can‑eat since you can order a little at a time. They do lock you out briefly between orders, but for two people it wasn’t an issue. Waters were always refilled, and it’s easy to request the check right from the iPad.

Both times I’ve been here, my son and I finished every bite on the table. No complaints at all. I’d like to try some of their cooked dishes next time — the tempura, kama, and mini udon bowls looked delicious — but the sashimi, nigiri, and rolls are so good we haven’t had room yet.

Overall, Yoki continues to impress. Fresh fish, great service, and a fun ordering system make it a spot worth coming back to.“
