We we rather disappointed recently when we called to make reservations for 4 for lunch on 2/25/2022 and were informed they only take reservations for 5 or more. Is this true ? “YESSSSS. Nearly perfect. I’m from NJ. I grew up on NYC and Philly Italian delis and boars head delis everywhere. I believe that access to a respectable deli is a basic human right. Yet every deli on the west coast manages to screw up a very simple staple food item… the sub, the hoagie, the grinder… whatever you wanna call it. NOT brothers deli. They have a solid list of ingredients and allow totally custom sandwiches. They have semolina (sesame) rolls. They have mortadella, they let you order fresh mozzarella or roasted red peppers on your sandwich. They don’t try to put pastrami on an Italian sub. I could go on and on.

They. Do. It. Right. Period. Go and get you some!

For the owners: soppressata and hot coppa (capicola) would be epic additions to the menu. Please stay in business. I need you.“

“We often bring out-of-towners here because it's hard to find Laotian food outside of the Bay and Vientian Cafe always delivers. The menu is super extensive and very reasonably priced, so you can try a bunch of new things each time. We always get the nam kao and the lao sausage (which you can also take home frozen). Angel wings are also super addictive.

Food also travels well if you're looking for takeout. One of our favorite spots in the east bay!“

“I saw the ratings and didn't know what to expect. Brought my family here to avoid the Berkely Parents' Weekend crowds. I was so pleasantly surprised the quality of the food and service. The roti is so fresh - perfectly crispy and chewy. The spices on the food and house coconut dipping sauce offered so much flavor - we were all blown away. Our kids loved the Thai Tea. Accomodates vegan taste buds and all other dietary preferences.“

“This is a cozy little Thai spot that completely changed my perspective on Thai food. I was never particularly drawn to Thai cuisine before, but this restaurant gave me a genuinely new appreciation for it :-)

My usual order is the Garden rolls, Spicy basil wings, and Pad thai. The Garden rolls are refreshingly simple, there’s no protein competing for attention, so you can actually taste the vegetables themselves. The dipping sauce is restrained rather than overpowering, which makes the whole dish feel nicely balanced.

The spicy basil wings are probably my favorite. The sauce is flavorful and remarkably well balanced, with just the right combination of savory, sweet, and aromatic basil notes.

The pad thai, with both shrimp and tofu, is substantial enough to make a satisfying meal on its own. My one consistent complaint, however, is the seasoning. It tends to be quite heavy-handed, with more sauce than I personally prefer, and I almost always find it too salty. I think a little less sauce and a more generous amount of vegetables would make the dish significantly better.

Overall, though, this has become one of those places I keep coming back to, which says quite a bit considering I never used to be much of a Thai food person.“

“This is the best South Asian cuisine I have had outside of my home. The food actually tastes authentic and not watered down for people who do not like spicy food. The goat biryani, chicken biryani, and goat karahi were excellent. If you are in the Oakland area, you have to try this place out!“

“The decor was festive and abundant in the best way possible, and the cocktails looked unique and curiosity-piquing. I narrowed my choices down to a Cafe Sua Daddy and the Soy Sauce Old Fashioned.

I love a savory drink and the sweet caffeinated espresso martini-esque drink had a thick blanket of just-salty-enough foam reminiscent of the salt cream that tops a boba drink. The Soy Sauce Old Fashioned catapulted me back to my childhood, eating slabs of tofu drenched in shoyu at my grandma's house. I loved the custom soy bottle presentation, it was just strong enough to tolerate being poured over a large rock while maintaining its flavor.

My partner had the Umami Tots and Mapo Tofu. I couldn't resist the siren song of some crispy potatoes dunked in chili oil cream, but managed to hold myself back on the tofu- even though it smelled amazing.

Can't wait to return and try the new seasonal drinks, along with more snacks.“

Ich bin selber leidenschaftlicher Hobbykoch in Deutschland und muss sagen: gut, wirklich gut. Das Sauerkraut könnte ein wenig „knackiger“ sein, aber es war trotzdem lecker. “I it's don't want to low rate this place because the food looks amazing and I'm sure it is, unfortunately they are only for catering/ to go orders in advance. Google makes it look like they still have tables from an old location they had, and they don't do to-go orders right away.
