“We often bring out-of-towners here because it's hard to find Laotian food outside of the Bay and Vientian Cafe always delivers. The menu is super extensive and very reasonably priced, so you can try a bunch of new things each time. We always get the nam kao and the lao sausage (which you can also take home frozen). Angel wings are also super addictive.

Food also travels well if you're looking for takeout. One of our favorite spots in the east bay!“

“Update: why did June's take away the 1 pizza that made them so popular??? The margarita was probably my favorite pizza in the Bay area. But instead of just creating a third pie, he decided to remove the one pie that made his business what it is today and replace with a tomato pie with a few burrata blobs. To me that is terrible business practices and hence why I will go to Mama's boys instead for a cheese pie. Craig, you can have more than two pizzas!! Please bring back the margarita. It's what made you what you are today. It's what I told everyone about for the past 2 years. Everyone!

Old review: By far one of the best pizza joints in the Bay Area if not the best. Love love the Margherita pizza pie! The cheese, sauce, sourdough crust - Perfection. Spinach special is also great. The Margherita is probably 9.9 / 10. One bite. Everybody knows the rules.“

“A Humble Plea: Bring Tanya Back!

We’ve been ordering from Hawking Bird for the last year - it’s our go-to spot for delicious fried chicken and flavorful garlic noodles. Our standard order: the Tanya Special. This ingenious dish focused on my favorite Hawking Bird offerings with none of the fluff. Imagine my disappointment when I learned this special was removed from the menu! Yes, you can alter the fried chicken bowl (sub noodles, remove the cucumber/cilantro/mint) but Tanya was generous, providing a larger portion size that cannot be recreated. Times are tough, and Miss Tanya provided some relief.

My loyalty to Hawking Bird has not wavered, I’m placing an order right now - but please consider bringing this special back!“

The place was fully packed, but the atmosphere was still chill and the service was really good. Great food, great vibe, and a really enjoyable experience. Definitely worth trying!“

The best jianbing I've had outside of China. Crispy and not too salty. My wife said it's authentic Tianjin style.

The soy milk was amazing! Very smooth and slightly sweet even though it wasn't sweetened. No burnt taste.

Alas, he was out of tea eggs.

The prices are very cheap for downtown Oakland ($12.50 for an entree), and on top of that you get free tea for the table! I highly recommend eating here if you're staying downtown and need a place to eat.“

“Got sat right away after putting myself on waitlist , food came out right away I got the hakata tonkatsu with medium spice . It was so flavorful and good . I didn’t taste any spice so would have been nice to get a bit more spice in it . My only regret is I ate it too fast . The other ramens looked good too . Especially the spicy ground chicken (TanTan). Workers were going at it getting orders out left and right and seemed to enthusiastic about it producing yummy meals for people 🙌🏼“

We we rather disappointed recently when we called to make reservations for 4 for lunch on 2/25/2022 and were informed they only take reservations for 5 or more. Is this true ? If so they should so state on their web site.“
